They've got the fourth bomber!

Who's this 'fifth' bomber people are talking about? I was under the impression there was just the four.

Great news but lets not get carried away eh!
They have causght the men who are SUSPECTED of the crimes, not proved of them. These are ALLEGED bombers
Plod have got it spectacularly wrong before haven't they ( Guilford 4, Birmingham 6, etc) and there have been many instances of miscarriages of justice.
Lets just hope they've done the job right and not just arrested folk because of the incredible strain they have been put under by the media for an arrest.

They did have them on CCTV , erm, leaving bombs, and a wealth of forensic evidence, so it strikes me as fairly likely that the suspects are indeed the wannabe bombers...

They found a fifth bomb partially exploded (can't remember where) - at first they thought it had been left by one of the four, but now they are saying it's too far from his route for him to have taken it there and left it.

It has been suggested that a 5th abandoned nail bomb in a park near the Peabody Estate was left byu a 5th bomber who bottled it...

I'd imagine that may have been explained by one of the raids today being very close to the park where the bomb was found.

Time to wheel it out again (just for special occasions).

And the deterrent value of executing someone convicted of failing to kill themselves is... ?

Back on topic: I'm cautious about this report.

BBC said:
The fourth suspect, wanted for the attempted Shepherd's Bush Tube attack, has been arrested in Rome, said the Italian interior minister.

Self-publicising by Giuseppe Pisanu? Italian police very good at identification? It appears the may be a premature-neo-fascist, by the way: he joined Forza Italia in 1994.

just what i was thinking

Very very fast. Presumably if he'd legged it within a few hours passport control wouldn't have had photos yet?

Anyway, lots of migrants come into this country without us noticing, so it's probably not too hard to get out either.

What bothers me is how he managed to get out of the country.

It bothers me more how he managed to get in the country if it turns out he wasn't born in Britain and, like one of the others arrested today, was recently granted citizenship of Britain.

Well. They say they've got somebody who they say is the fourth bomber. Let's not get all premature here.

Aye - you'd think after last week some folk would have learned their lesson....

is a failed sucide bomber at risk of killing themselves ? if the 5th bomber bottled it surely he is harmless cant go back to his own organisation
and not likely to get a second chance .So either kills himself hands himself over to authorites or keeps his head down .

To which country are you referring?

Given the cock-up of the Stockwell shooting, they'd have been in real trouble if they hadn't been able to declare victory within a few days. So there will be some possibility they've cut corners, but I hope they have got all four of 'em.

Yes but if they were the people caught on CCTV leaving the bombs and running off, plus a shed load of forensic evidence and CCTV tapes and eyewitnesses, I don't see how they could have made a mistake. It's a bit different to the Guildford 4 and the Birmingham 6...

Yes you're quite right. I'm inclined to be hopeful, but still a bit wary.

which is something we don't know at this point.

The thing is, I remember when they announced the Stockwell shooting, the thought that they'd blasted an innocent man to oblivion did cross my mind, but at first dismissed it from serious consideration on the grounds that they couldn't *possibly* have made such an imbecilic mistake as to kill someone without knowing absolutely for sure that he was one of the London bombers.

Boy was I wrong about that ...

Its what happens when people call for "shoot to kill" and "shoot first, ask questions later" policing however. Mistakes will always be made if you play by those rules. One such mistake will be selling out civil liberties.

Afew work colleagues of mine who are Muslims have been approached by the police over the past few days who asked them what they thought of the London bombings. Its fucking disgraceful.
