Them Crooked Vultures (QOTSA/Foo Fighters/Led Zeppelin super-group)

I'm vaguely interested, but for that ticket money, I can see 3 bands I know I'm gonna like, rather than risk another Homme ego-massage.

I'll pass, I think.

First listen to the album.

I reckon it's the best thing Josh Homme's been involved with since 'Songs For The Deaf'. Having said that, don't expect it to be as good as that. Or 'Rated R', not by a long stretch. Probably about as good as QOTSA's debut album. That's a fuck of an improvement on 'Era Vulgaris' and the other boring one, mind.

I think it'll grow on me. I'd like to see them live.

Yeah, I thought I heard a bit of Bowie in there, too.

It's quite surprising this record - it's not what I'd expect these three to come up with. It could do with a full on Dave Grohl 'A Song For The Dead' drumming moment - I think that's what I was expecting more than anything else.

But I like what John Paul Jones thrtows in - 'Gunman' has that Led Zep boogie stomp thing all over it. Like 'Misty Mountain Hop' or 'Trampled Underfoot' or something. And it's fucking psychedelic in places, too. Really like that.

Lots of people are going to fucking hate it, I think. :D I'm intrigued. Haven't listened to anything else since I got it anyhow.

Had it for a couple of days. First listen didn't go down to well but a mate told me to give it another go. Gotta say it gets better each time, personal faves (atm ) are Bandoliers and Dead End Friends. But i've also noticed that the better tracks are, imo, towards the end of the album. And I'm not, as Alex Petridis says, a hero-worshipper for liking this album. There are layers to the production, like the use of reverb it the early tracks had me thinking that something was wrong with my copy :( but it was me who was wrong. Been the only thing on the playlist as well.

It is really growing on me now - took a good 5-6 listens which is always a good sign for longevity IME.

Far more subtle than I was expecting.

It's good!

:)

I was indeed fucking fuming.

Draconian as the measures implemented to stop the resale of Glastonbury tickets seemed to some, it is the only way to stop these profiteering pricks. That or force collection of the tickets at the venue from a credit-card swipe...

i've jsut tried to get tix for the december shows and AGAIN they are sold out at face value. Funny that seatwave have tickets going for £118. This really shouldn't be allowed. grrrrr,

no, you are quite right. There is no edge of funk metal to them, more like the leaden rock-by-numbers of that other supergroup that formed up and bashed out a sub zepplin impression. I can't even remember what they were called

Well quite. Despite the fact I disagree, that is a flame which makes far more sense.

Audioslave.

And TCV are about a thousand times better than them thank-you-very-much.
