Another thing that amused me about thelondonpaper was the testimonials gleaned from what they'd like us to believe were "random" enquiries. Strangely every single one of those solicited, and categorised by job and age, gave the paper the thumbs up. One punter even enthused about the "clever" use of purple and the "stylish" sans serif font on the masthead. Who needs content, maaaaan?! :)

A possible solution for those feeling pestered by being accosted by freebie newspaper pushers:

Collect one newspaper from each pusher and keep them until you are accosted by a chugger. Hand said newspapers to the chugger whilst saying that that is all you can afford to give at the moment.

If I wanted a serious newspaper, I'd buy one. If I want something free, trashy and handy for the commute I'll grab the londonpaper. Fuck what 'proper' paper readers think.

One of the things that always irritates me about London Lite is those little pictures of supposedly 'cool' and 'trendy' londoners and their cheesy comments about why they 'love' london lite.

It's probably best to forget about newspapers, they're a dying media. Better to use reputable websites, radio stations and TV news. That's why we need the BBC now more than ever.

I agree - but I'd also add radio to that. With the notable exception of Radio 4 and possibly 5Live, it's rapidly becoming an irrelevance in this age of instant mobile access to websites and being able to choose when you listen to stuff through the net or podcasts. The commercial operators (who, apart from music stations, also put out the low-end news talk stuff like LBC) are without exception in financial dire straits - no-one's listening, particularly in London where fewer people drive around. I expect a lot of radio will go the same way as a lot of newspapers in ten years time - off. (And I speak as someone in radio, for the time being at least.)

If LBC goes what will the bigoted cab drivers listen to? How else are they to be expected to spread stories about free houses being given to swan eating asylum seekers?

It's a scandal I tell ya an absolute scandal. :D
