They've certainly had it really bad there too, but Brooklyn Bridge was bedecked in the things.

Would make sense. I saw shit loads on the bridges when I was last in Paris.

I started noticing them last year in London, when I used to cross Tower Bridge every day on my way to work. They got more frequent on the bridge as I was at that job. No, it wasn't me. Now I see them all the time - I was in Shoreditch the other day and there were shitloads all over a chainlink fence near the station.

I think they're quite cute actually.

I wondered what that was about, there are some on the Southbank and not as you might expect cheapo locks but large solid high security jobs.

It's quite weird, associating a lock and key with love, when you think about it...

... having said that I would be into it, if I was the romantic teenager I once was :D

yeah, don't like the connotation of those at all. but I edited my post to say if I was a teen I might think it was somehow romantic. So maybe those are the people doing it?

I've always found the idea that hating a forced day of consumerist shite makes you unromantic an odd one.

I cross the Millennium Bridge most days and there is a gradual build up of locks and then a cull every month or so.

So if people think it's some kind of eternal symbol of their relationship they are in la-la land.

Its just nice to have a special day.
in the same way its nice to have any special day set aside to celebrate something. its not necessary, or important. just nice.

Its more interesting than a fence.
there are stories attached to the placing of each one.
it becomes a feature of the place.
the shear number of people that have done it.
