the wisdom of musicians

Now if six turned out to be nineI don't mind, no baby I don't mind,
If all the hippies cut off all their hair,
I don't care, no baby I don't care
Because i, I've got my own world to live through,
And I ain't gonna copy you

You're just a 3 dressed up as a 9
You're only, wastin' my time
A 3 dressed up as a 9, hey yeah ...
(All dressed up but you're only a 3, a 3 dressed up as a 9

He said "I dance now at ev'ry chance in honky tonks
For drinks and tips.
But most of the time I spend behind these county bars
'Cause 'I drinks a bit."
He shook his head, and as he shook his head I heard someone ask "Please,
Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles,
Dance!"

Well, I don't hate my parents
I don't get drunk just to spite them
I've got my own reasons to drink now
Think I'll call my dad up and invite him
I can sleep in 'til noon anytime I want
Though there's not many days that I do
Gotta get up and take on that world
When you're an adult it's no cliche, it's the truth

Now Mary Lou loved Johnny with a love mean and true
She said "Baby I'll work for you every day and bring my money home to you"
One day he up and left her and ever since that
She waits down at the end of that dirt road for young Johnny to come back
Struck me kinda funny seemed kind of funny sir to me
How at the end of every hard earned day people find some reason to believe

Bob Dylan, making a point a few "anti-authoritarians" might like to bear in mind.

The shortest one so far, and unsurpisingly the wisest one too.

Also thank you for playing by my hoped-for rules!

I might add though, that that was why i tried to have entries only include one two or three lines. It's far easier to access the bit of wisdom that the singer is trying to impart.

It's also nice to know whose wisdom it is, and so far mr dylan is coming out very well!

So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
Wish you were here

old enough to pee then shes old enough for me.

Lets fuck - the dwarves

Give me aids,
I just wanna get laid.

Also the Dwarves.

You put your right hand in,
You put your right hand out,
You put your right hand in,
And you shake it all about,

You do the hokey pokey
and you turn yourself around
That what it's all about.

Why is it that the north american posters on this thread cannot restrict themselves to a couple of lines? Why do they say so much...?

Just joking like, but dave and johnny and yuwipi just could not restrain themselves...!

You know it makes sense, don't even think about it
Life and death are just things you do when you're bored

John Cale

You know some people got no choice and they can't never find a voice to talk with that they can even call their own
So the first thing that they see that allows them the right to be why they follow it, you know it's called bad luck

Lou Reed

Some say yes 'n some say no
And my old man says 'Mind how you go'
A little bit o' this, a little bit o' that
If you can't take a joke well sod ya

Yeah, Yeah, Industrial Estate
Yeah, Yeah, Industrial Estate"

The Fall, from 'Live at the Witch Trials'

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me,
Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father, brothers all are we,
Let me walk with my brother, in perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now,
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow,
To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me!

*song taught to children in schools*

What did you learn in school today, dear little boy of mine,
What did you learn in school today, dear little boy of mine?
I learned our government must be strong,
It's always right and never wrong.
Our leaders are the finest men,
And so we elect them again and again.
And that's what I learned in school today, that's what I learned in school.

Pete Seeger - it was on the telly last night.

Musical "Man of La Mancha" Lyrics

The Impossible Dream
Lyrics by Joe Darion

To dream ... the impossible dream ...
To fight ... the unbeatable foe ...
To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ...
To run ... where the brave dare not go ...
To right ... the unrightable wrong ...
To love ... pure and chaste from afar ...
To try ... when your arms are too weary ...
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

This is my quest, to follow that star ...
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...
To fight for the right, without question or pause ...
To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...

And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest,
That my heart will lie will lie peaceful and calm,
when I'm laid to my rest ...
And the world will be better for this:
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

It all started when I lost my mother
No love for myself and no love for another
Searching to find a love upon a higher level
Finding nothing but questions and devils

-Papa Roach-

Twinkle twinkle little star
Shining down on my blue car
Drivin' down the boulevard
She was soft and I was hard

Because life is so brief and time is a thief when you’re undecided.
And like a fistful of sand, it can slip right through your hands.

-Rod Stewart-

A bit long, but I couldn't see how to shorten it. Classic -

You see man made the cars
To take us over the world
Man made the train
To carry the heavy load
Man made the electro lights
To take us out of the dark
Man made the bullet for the war
Like Noah made the ark
This is a man's man's, man's world
But it would be nothing
Nothing without a woman to care

I quoted a song written by a British group. Maybe it's the brits who are too wordy. :p

But I believe in this and it's been tested by research
That he who fucks nuns will later join the church
