The Wire - What's all the fuss about?

do you mean the cameras?
no. I remember reading about how they purposefully kept the filming/editing technology static through all 5 seasons so they had a cohesive look. That's why it's all in 4:3 as well. HBO switched to 16:9 widescreen around the time S1 came out (IIRC) but The Wire never got made in 16:9.

hmm. it looks very different to me. Ronnie's freckles are really almost grey-looking. maybe it's something different in our setup in the last week, but i can't think what.

They've adhered to several strict rules about shooting and editing such as

A) rarely cutting to a close up and using long takes.

B) No music aside from ambient music except for the end of season montage.

I just finished watching the first 2 series.

I might have to go and buy S3 tomorrow :)

I defo thought S1 was better than S2. Both were good though.

s2 is a bit of an anomaly - but good on its own merits. the rest are better, though.

we've now consumed all the wire there will ever be.:(

Went on too far, no Stringer, no D, no Avon. Marlow is a bit boring, should have spent more time on particular charecters instead of having 25 different stories in every series. Loads of boring bits where the cops are aguing with the courts and the FBI. Its easy to criticise but I don't think its all its cracked up to be.

The stuff with the courts and the FBI is integral to what it's about IMO, through all the series.

Just too many charecters, more focus on the likes of D, Bubbs (1 minute an episode). Best charecters weren't developed enough, instead it had 20 apearences which made it unfullfiling for me. I've got a lot of respect for it though, the first three series at least. Series 1 and 2 where great stories. Bunk and Mcnulty where great from the cops side.

Spent the last two weeks watching this, just got to series 4 last night.

Very enjoyable to watch. The first series was the best so far.

Who are you? You call me a cunt because I didn't use a spoiler code? Pathetic.

Eddy you're usually marching to the beat of your own drum, so take a tip, don't make jokes that reveal spoilers, it's not big and it's not clever.

You're pretty small and stupid usually, but try and rise above your own level, idiot.

just started watching the first season of Homicide - Life on the Streets after reading the book (which has various things from The Wire in it as well)

tis good and has some actors from The Wire in it. not as complex but a good investigative cop show

Tis fooking excellent.
Although Brother Mouzone gets on my tits a bit, he's like a not very hard, camp Chris Eubank
And Method Man cant act for shit but otherwise...
