not according to my poll it is not...20% are backing Dexter and his murderous ways...saying that have to err towards the wire...i guess one thing I should know is how many series of each are there?

HBO has made some really really fucking quality series, any of these you haven't seen (barring Sex and the City as I know it doesn't have a huge fan base in these parts) are well worth getting into. IMO.

I've just got to ep 7 of dexter and am finding it a tad formulaic. It's not too bad - nice to see US tv try a black comedy - but it seems to be bogged down with standard TV conventions of a weekly plot repeating itself with an ongoing story arc over the whole series that isn't really that unfolds in a very obvious and linear-to-the-point-of-patronising fashion, as well as 1 dimensional charectors, some quite poor acting and sometimes very wooden dialogue. I'm glad someone burned it for me rather than forking out...
Sopranos, whilst still having a story per episode and overall season arc, has much more variety. Also brilliantly acted, sometimes very funny, and also well researched (unlike dexter, with its carbon copy "serial killer as semi-autistic emotional freak" main charecter)
The wire wins every time though, for reasons that should be obvious to anyone with taste.

It's the only US series I watch.
Lost is indeed superb, but put most people off the scent by cunningly making series 2 and 3 gash. That way, they are sneaking a genuine piece of classic TV right under everyone's noses, a sort of anti-hype
Series 4/5 have been amongst the best TV I can remember.
