The Wire on Culture Show tonight

Again, so do you think the Wikipedia article is innacurate when it says the Wire has been shown in the US, Canada, France etc?

jesus fuckin christ man :D

i said wikipedia is not the most reliable source, and that goes for ANYTHING.

of course it was shown in the US & Canada, its was on HBO ffs.

france, i dont know!!!

do you work for one of HBO's competitors or something? :p :D

Belushi, old chap, I think it's fair to point out that you are taking this thread far more seriously than I am. And, I can't be arsed arguing about it because it's this important to me

Whatever. If it comes on the telly I'll watch it.

Not bad, but then I heart both Lauren Laverne and David Simon.

Interesting about the parallels with Greek mythology - hadn't thought of that angle before.

Fuck the casual viewer :cool::cool::cool:

'fuck the casual viewer, is that what a novelist wants? a casual reader? I'm letting the little fish go and hooking the people who want a real story told':cool:

Hands off Lauren, she is MINE.

:mad::mad::mad:

The Greek tragedy angle had been mentioned on one of the threads, there is a link somewhere to an article that is all about it.

The Wire would easily pull in as many viewers as The West Wing were it to be broadcast on BBC4 without ad breaks, at a decent time, on a decent day - say Sunday at 9pm (C4 fucked the WW over by moving the slot around, then not bothering to buy any of the later seasons because of inconsistent ratings...grrrrrrrrr). A series like this could easily bring in 750K-1mn viewer for BBC4 - and in a slot like Sunday at 9 that's a decent chunk of audience share.

It's a question of how much the rights to all 54 seasons would cost - and on how long Fox have the show for to run on FX etc etc. I reckon it will come to UK terrestrial at some point tho.

They (bbc4 that is) do have a record of putting on similar shows - Madmen worked quite well on there as well. They played that late on bbc2 and then prime time bbc4.

Is she on for long?
I might watch it later but I cant abide her. Ive loathed her for a decade.

She insisted on interviewing Mr Simon in the most lame, gimmick ridden way possible. I'm surprised he went along with it tbh.

Would have much preferred it if Kermode did the questions.

Her speaking voice is like nails on a blackboard for me.
Its not the accent, its the cadence.

Arrrggghh.

Oh Im so disappointed by that.

Bit pissed off actually, but I'll wait and watch it.
I agreee - it needed a heavyweight interviewer.
