The Wickerman Festival

I might do this next yr - my folks live just outside Kirkudbright, might take my wee sister to it, she's only a bairn but she might enjoy it.

*wonders if anyone noticed scottish accent only an impression*

Iif i had gotten a response like the one to this thread we could have had the meet-up this year :D

I was busy that weekend this year and last, which is why I'm now not planning anything else for next year. It's weird how you can get booked up a yr in advance :confused:

It's not like I'm a very social person but I'm already booked up for a weekend each for next May/July/Aug. And they're from one end of the country to the other quite literally!!

I think I encountered that stall at another festival last week. Stoats? Peach-flavoured porridge is just plain wrong :D

Following on from the Wickerman Festival there is spin off related to the film, according to the Dumfries & Galloway Standard, Friday 16 September, 2005, page 39....

Film buffs are to ge a first in the region -- a free seat on an inaugral "Wicker Man" film locations tour.

The British cult horror classic has world-wide followers and Solway Heritage have organised the first locations tour as part of its Dumfries & Galloway Doors Open Day 2005.

Forty nine seats are up for grabs for the tour on Sunday September 25, which will have a professional guide and will take in Kirkcudbright, Anwoth, Creetown, Gatehouse of Fleet, Whithorn and Port Logan.

Anyone interested should send a postcard, with their details and request up to four seats asap to Jean Atkin, Solway Heritage, Campbell House, The Crichton, Bankend Road, Dumfries, DG1 4ZB
.

Sadly I'm up in Glasgow that day -- but if anyone is interested and goes, I'd be interested to see what it was like.

I rode to Plockton a couple of years ago-just to see the bit from the start of the film where Edwar Woodwar(sic) landed in the plane-top place.
Meant to get to Kirdcudbright but never quite made it.

Isn't the beach and the cave from the end of the film nearby?

This festival sounds really interesting. Do you have to bring your own sacrificial policeman or do they sell them up there?

Yup at Burrow Head -- apparently there are remains of the feet there. I went on a trip to see St Ninian's cave (the site where Howie runs in with Rowan), but couldn't find the feet. The cave where Howie runs in with Rowan (thinking he's saving her) is full of crosses left by pilgrims -- 'cos its where Christianity was supposedly first introduced to Scotland (although that's some years ago now ;) ).

2006!!

Think myself and Miss Faerie are going to be stepping out at this, this year. Looks brilliant, especially the dance tent. My folks live round these parts and am looking forward to this loads, not been to a fesival for a while and to be honest don't really fancy the look of any of the bigger ones that aren't glastonbury. Yay! :)

Now, just got to keep my fingers crossed the tickets turn up!! £50 a ticket as well, and cos my mums going to pick them up from a local ticket supplier they are even cheaper :cool:

:)

im going again this year, have to say though the line ups a bit of a let down this year so far. seems to be all cover/tribute type acts so far, blockheads, marky ramone (with anti product as his band), sensational alex harvey band (no harvey).. arthur brown (there last year) dangleberries (there last year), the animals ..

havin said that it was superb last year, plenty of space, well kid friendly and a real good vibe at it. could do with a few better acts though.

true true although im not a fan of theirs, dont dislike em but not really into em that much either. they are on the friday night, the saturday night is the downer. although theres still one? band to announce, just doesnt seem anyone really fresh in the line up. still.... should be a good weekend.

I went to the wickerman fest last year it was fantastic. great chill out time for me . the highlight was The Big, great Ska band. Can't remember which tent they were playin in though was probably a bit wasted. but i'll definitely be going this year.:D

I'm going too now :)

It was either that or Ashton Court; the petrol to get to Ashton Court and back would probably make it cheaper to buy a ticket for the Wicker Man & go there :)

woohoo, got my ticket :)

Strange thing is though, it's a very low number (<3000) ... Hmm. Do most people just pay on the gate, or does it not really get very big anyway ...?

I see now there are quite a few shops that sell tickets too ... prolly the majority of tickets are from shops or on the gate ... Probably only a daft few like me buy them online.

Damnit, coulda saved a fiver .... :(

its not been very big, last year i would only estimate a few thousand there. however its been getting bigger and bigger each year. i reckon loads will hang off to see if this heat wave continues or we are gonna have boggy fields.

Bit cocked up on the money front :(

Means I'll have to leave site on Friday (when I get paid) and go find a cash machine forthwith. Anyone know if I should be able to drive offsite and come back? Beginning to think the shuttle bus looks like a better idea in which case ... does the shuttle bus stay long enough at its various stops to give time to run off to a cash machine and run back in time? :D

e2a: Bit late now, but I found out there's also a Wicker Man forum :)

not posted here for bout 6 months now cos im offline and the library pc's are dead slow, but thought id make an exception and search for a wickerman thread; i cant wait, trying to get down thursday afternoon; not too concerned about the lineup as i'm mainly there for the reggae soundsystem, festival atmosphere and good crowd, burning of the wickerman itsself, getting out the city etc; and i see the amphetameanies are playing too; and t in the park looked imo a worse lineup for twice the price and a shit crowd wi too much security folk/polis, if its still like i remember it, not that i didnt enjoy it at the time;

if the weathers like this it'll be great, so warm at the moment

i'll not prob be online again before then so wont be able to meet up wi anyone, but if you see someone in their mid twenties wi dark hair (possibly shaved at the back and sides but just short on top in a kinda early 90's shabba ranks kinda thing if i get round to it) and a blue cap say hello;
saw the name velouria on the wickerman board and that made me think to check this place; good to see theyre using vbulletin as welll, shame it takes so long to load up.

right, im away back imnto the sunshine, enjoy the weekend folks

Well, I'm back.

That was great :D

Didn't bump into either of the fairies, but did bump into another Urbanite completely at random while buying a veggieburger ... :)

Looking forward to next year's one already :)

Me and Miss C Faerie are back and it was lovely! Loved eek-a-mouse most of all (also amphetameanies were brilliant) but generally had a supurb time. - Got a few pics which will post up when had time to upload to flickr.

that was crackin; aye, eek-a-mouse was prob the highlight for me along with the 2 hours of dub vs jungle, and the view from the top of the hill next to it; lookin forward to next year and hope axis sounds will be back; seemed a lot bigger than the last time i was their; to be honest there wasnt much apart from the meanies and eekamouse i was into, but was good to know there was always reggae playing whatever was going on elsewhere; them veggieburgers were well nice too;
managed to get my legs sunburnt though, falling asleep outside the reggae tent on the saturday

Oops! Forgot there might be a thread in this forum :o
We had a cracking time! Particularly loved the Amphetameenies and Marky Ramone, and that tiny cinema. We might be back.... :)
<puts ketchup on Velouria's veggie burger>
