The White Stripes - Crap / Not Crap?

I think Jack & Meg are:

They're pretty good, I think they're just judged on their image too much by the detractors. Can't have a rock band openly displaying a sense of, perish the thought, fun, now can we?

Sonic Youth are just boring, flabbly noise.
It's possible I haven't heard any White Stripes stuff that isn't toilet because although Sonic Youth aren't always inspiring, sometimes they are and when they are they're fuckin excellent IMO

From now on I will try to cut out the opinionated polls and bleating on about music in the music forum.....

No. wait a second...

no you're fucking not. there's only a few of us left who are actually downright offensive in our defence of our music tastes and everytime someone quits to start respecting other people's opinions it just makes me look more of a cunt.

The White Stripes. One of the most consistently inspired 'big' bands we have. 'Fell In Love With A Girl'...'Seven Nation Army'...'Blue Orchid'...'My Doorbell'...all classics. So successful, yet still so spontaneous and with none of the rough edges lost. Damn groovy too. And Peel loved 'em. And they just get better and better.

Yeah I saw them on the sunday, fucking ace. Total over kill on the instruments, there was enough kit on stage for 11 people

So few people have successfully merged pop, blues, country and punk into a conceptual art band the way Jack White has, to me he is this generations Bowie. Personally, I think that the last two albums have been quite decadent in some ways but their debut and White Blood Cells are outstanding as are Jolene and Jacks early colaborations.

I saw them on Thursday in Manchester, 3rd time for me, and once again, they blew me through the fucking roof. A full version of Ball & biscuit no less, a psychotic rendition of Little Ghost, an unexpected but more than welcome Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground, and the sexiest version of Don't Know What To Do With Myself are among my personal highlights. I've come to the conclusion that they are actually my favourite band ever. I get so tired of people bemoaning Meg's 'lack of ability' on the drums...the way she plays IS the white stripes, the point is missed time and again. As for Jack, he's got to be one of the funniest, campest, most talented artist/bluesman/songwriter/everything going :D My skin bleeds when he plays Jolene live  ALL of the albums stand up as utter fucking genius. I've been playing a lot of the older stuff lately and it's like the core of it hasn't changed, but the nuances and performance have - they've got even better...stronger, more varied, more confident in the ability to play around. And if I ever catch hold of that Karen FUCKING elson....

A rather gigantic refresh to ask; Is anyone else getting thoroughly fed up with hearing Seven Nation Army played to death at the football and many other events? Yes it's a catchy hook, but there are surely limits, over thirteen years since its release.

I have a primary school behind my house and kids sing it in the playground all the time. My 18 month old son bloody loves it and does his mental little dance and bangs his drum when he hears it. So yes I'm sick of it :D but I don't think it is going anywhere for a long time!
