lol , those days of installing norton or whoever offered the best AV are way gone.

I am still waiting for a linux virus and some tasty spyware.
Not having to run scandisk and defrag has disappointed me as well :D

You think. Well I'll let you know my results from today. Windows defender has scored very low in independant tests and since Vista is still based on the fucked up NT kernel it won't take long for the exploits to start hitting.
With regards to viruses for linux they are out there but due to the way linux is built it just ain't gonna get affected the same way windows does show me a worm that affects linux machines the same way sasser affected windows then I'll be impressed. Again, I know there are exploits existing for unix machines that can self propagate (I've just written some snort sigs for the Solaris telnet vuln/worm), but this relys on users implementing these vulnerable services in the first place. Do you see how MS fucked this up?

I'm not a windows basher cos I'm a mac/linux fanboy. I hate all computers in fact. :D
It's because I understand the vulnerabilities and have worked with environments where most of the risks were because of windows and the 8th level of the TCP/IP stack.

Oh and woo yay no defrag, it's only taken 12 years to catch up. :p

I'm switching my way over to ubuntu + compiz/beryl. Spend most of my time using this now, looks nicer, runs faster and 'nearly' does everything I need. I figure with how fast linux has evolved the past year or two if Im still using it in a couple more years it will have everything I need. :)

I've a linux virus I could send you if you like.

It's a bit hard to install mind. :D

(I know it's an old joke, but hey!)

meh. I can't even put my money where my mouth is. They wouldn't let me in the office cos they were polishing the floors and it wasn't urgent, so I couldn't pick up the laptop.

oh and when I was playing with it yesterday. I was logged in as admin.

Will Vista run on my ZX81 with 16K RAM pack? :D

Apparenlty if you stick some bluetack between the ram pack and ZX81 it can stop any problems with crashing

just a quick update . i am sure i posted thsi somewhere else i thought it was here.

well ms came through and i got my copy of vista ultimate and also ultimate office 2007.

love vista and some of the stuff it does. its so pleasing to the eye and the way the folders are like little books with pages are displayed.

i was lazy as i did nto want the hassle of installing a fresh install and having to do all the other stuff that came with that.

the upgrade too about 90 minutes. all of my programs apart from nero and sony erricson suite work fine.

so i am really please.

what i will say is that my computer has a vista score of 4.2 (top is 5.9) so i am actually doing ok.

current spec

asus mvp delux xfire motherboard
and x 2 4800cpu
2gb of oc uk ram cas 2
dvd rw water cooled and 2 x1950xtx 512mb ati cards in crossfire mode.
oh a 32 in lcd running at crappy res and then an asus 24 inch wdie screen 1600x1200

just trying to buy an fx60 cpu from a guy today for 150 but if he failed to come through i am going to buy an am 2 x 6000 cpu r an fx 62 and accompanying motherboard and ram.

leaving me with a few bit i will need to fleabay.

my view. i love it most of all cos it was free from ms. should flog my unused ultimate office easy for 200 on flea bay that will pay fro my memory :)
