Volvo did construct & run 2 Group B 340 rally cars, with the Douvrin V6 engine, as their powerplant,in the mid 80's, which currently are in their museum, along with the 240 Turbo saloons you mention, & were mentioned in the Hayes manual for the 340...
As for the nose heaviness, you mentioned, this was effectively cancelled out, by the fact that the manual transmission version of the 340, had the gearbox seperate from the engine, & mounted in the 340's rear...
(In short, the engine transmitted it's power directly to the gearbox, via the propshaft, & as such has no rear differential...).
This gave it, in theory, roughly the same handling characteristics as a Porsche 928, which had the same engine/gearbox configuration....
