Tbh I think most American cars are hideous. They're usually just too big, too flashy and too staid. This fairly nondescript Cadillac is as good an example as any:

I love old American's. There's just something brilliantly daft, yet rather cool about them.
I'm even thinking of getting something really silly from the 60's/early 70's as a bit of a project.

Saw this 59 New Yorker on ebay US yesterday - £600 so far

I have to disagree witgh bees about the Citroen DS. It's gorgeous.

Think how striking it must have looked when it came out in the late 50s as well. Alongside the Rover P4, Austin Westminster and other such staid saloons being made in Britain at the time, it must have looked like a spaceship.

it is still a spaceship.

Good post that ^

I feel however that this effort from Fiat should get a mention too...

That one has my vote, too. Two families with whom I am acquainted have them, and I have to try and remember not to call them "Fiat Encephalituses"...

If you think that Hummer's ugly you should see the one that's often parked in Greenwich. 'Bling' doesn't even begin to describe it. Tbh I think you've summed up exactly what sort of person would want one: small-dicked alpha male!
*ahem*

Small-dicked alpha-male wannabe.

Re: Roadkill's Volvo post
No, try shoehorning in a 2.6 litre Douvrin V6 into them as Volvo did for their 2 rally cars in the late 80's....
Make sure it's a manual gearbox though, not a Variomatic....
(Note: The 340 series was originally a DAF design, & Volvo acquired the design when it acquired DAF in the early 80's. As such, it used the same engine a/k/a "The Iron Cleon" as the Renault 5....).

No. Proper BMW 6's look like this:

Is true, but the new one is true to the spirit of the old 6s - a big, brutal get-the-fuck-out-of-my-way 4-seater. Never made a convertible 6 back in the day, did they?

They never rallied the 340. The 240 was homologated with the V6, but it was never a works car and most people used the 240 Turbo anyway. Besides, the V6 is a heavy old lump and it'd turn a 340 into a nose-heavy pig to drive. 'Twas a good engine in bigger cars, though, such as the Peugeot 504 Coupe and the Alpine A310.

I had the use of a 340 automatic for a while. The variomatic gearbox is truly shit, especially since on this example the belt was slipping. Not a bad-handling little car, though.

The Nissan Micra. The old one was bad enough the new one is worse

First time I saw that, I thought "Fuck me, I didn't know VW Beetles could get Downs Syndrome"

*feels slightly guilty*

The Chrysler Crossfire, not bad from certain angles, but the view from behind reminds me of a fat dog having a shit :)

I pulled up behind one of those, and Ms Pembrokestephen (by no means an automotive fashion victim - she drives a Saxo) and I both exclaimed "what the hell is THAT".

The conclusions we reached were that a) Chrysler's design people clearly still have beer busts on Friday afternoons, b) that vehicle was designed late on a Friday, and c) someone there had a sense of humour.

Yeah, but Micras are directly aimed at women. And most of the ones I know think they're cute. Go figure. They certainly don't offend me, at least.

I think the current BM 6'er is more of a replacement for the 8-series. That said, it is still based on a 5 at least. It's just the 5's a lot bigger and softer than it used to be.
