It's true that the Morris Ital has no recognisable saving graces though.

My Dad had one of these when I was about 12. It was an automatic too. (you can't even imagine...believe me)

I distinctly remember us being on holiday in the Dales and my Mum, sister & I having to get out because this pathetic shitstain of a car - this embelem of British manufacturing - didn't have enough power to get to the top of a steep country lane with all of us in it.

It was so embarassing.

what is it with cars with fat arses?
I think they're cute, but it annoys me that there presumably isn't a genuine "form follows function" imperative like another French classic :-

but that car is gorgeous cos it has a rounded flowing curve of a behind. the renault negane hatchback has a horid jagged bum.

BMW used to make smart-looking, sharply-styled cars. Whoever they've got designing them these days wants shooting. The 3-series (above) is minging, and the bigger ones look like oversculpted bathtubs.

Some of the new Beemers aren't so bad...

Pontiac Aztek hands downt he ugliest. I cannot believe someone put the DS in this list
well, GM was discounting the ugly things so much that some people just couldn't pass up the deal....a friend of mine bought a new one for 30% off the sticker price

Nuff said.

Thankfully I've never seen one in the flesh. My God!

A bloke who I used to live opposite had a convertible BMW 645, and that was a pretty ugly car.

But that fucking Pontiac thing's in another league! :D :D :D

Hang on, I think I might just have thought of a good candidate...

Probably the only thing that NATO did right over the Yugoslavian conflict was bombing the factory that made these monstrosities!
hahaha...in 1989 very high winds blew a Yugo off the Mackinac bridge and a woman fell 200 feet to her death...

Nobody's mentioned the Citroen Ami yet

Fuckin' hell they were rough looking. I'd imagine there must be some kind of fan club for them now, but Christ they're pig ugly.

You. know. nothing.

Yeah, I think that thing's quite cute in a Sleeper sort of way.

Some wonderfully hideous monstrosities on this thread, though I think Boris is being a little unfair on the Ford Ka.

I think the funniest ugly cars happen when they're really trying to impress:

Another view of the Citroen Ami, but it's forgiven it's '60s quirkiness, as there's no damn excuse for that Pontiac thing.

I have actually owned a citroen ami estate. The ride was palatial, there was loads of space and the interior was beyond funky (the speedo was in a recessed tube halfway down the steering column, very futuristic). Only problem was it had the 602cc 2CV engine. It was way heavier so they gave it twin carbs - result: it was slower than a 2CV but only did about 35 to the gallon instead of the tin snails 55.

There was a Ami super with the GS 1200cc flat four engine - they went like stink. I actually like the styling, its very Dan Dare and optomistic futurist.

Funnily enough I actually like the styling of the '70s Ami 8. I remember seeing them in the early-mid '70s when my Dad was buying his GSs.

Not ugly at all. Shame as there really can't be many left at all now.

I did a search for GS's a little while back and came up with 1 GSA Pallas for sale for £3995. But that search showed that there are a few (not many mind) GS & GSX cars in good nick around Europe.

My Dad bought his new in dark green in December 1972, with a 1220 engine.

Good post that ^

I feel however that this effort from Fiat should get a mention too...

You got there first. This is an abomination against both God and Man.

There's a Daihatsu that looks a bit like it, but surely the Italians, who invented the concept of beautiful cars, should eat their own heads for allowing this distorted mess out of the factory?

Ami 6, based on a 2CV - Quality. 3 left in the UK, saw one recently at Goodwood. Odd styling but then it was the 1960s, odd shaped rear windscreen mean't it didn't need cleaning.

I've thought about putting that 1220cc engine into my dads newly restored 1958 2CV....he doesn't agree!

Tbh I think most American cars are hideous. They're usually just too big, too flashy and too staid. This fairly nondescript Cadillac is as good an example as any:

Whenever I look at most American cars, I think about trying to drive one in London traffic, or on a winding Yorkshire Dales backroad, and shudder.

Perhaps it's a family thing (my dad's owned three), or maybe I'm just sad, but I like the old Volvo 340. It's an inoffensive sort of car, and it actually handles surprisingly well.

It's a heavy old thing, though, and the 1.4 version is sloooooooow. I wouldn;t mind a try at the turbo version they made in the '80s. Being overtaken by a Volvo 340 would piss the Saxo boyz off no end. :D

I can't believe that in three cosecutive posts on page 1, people nominated the DS, the Saab 96 and the RO80........Thats nearly all the posters from my bedroom wall............and I drove a Princess, an orange one!!!:(

There aren't too many of those left on the roads here, either. I'd love to get one:D but they suck too much gas.
