The 'Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps Is Shite' Thread

The thing is, it knows its place and doesnt try to be anything that its not. But afterall it is a sitcom, and on that basis i think its ok really. Harmless fun.
Remember that the office, and spaced arent really sitcoms in the traditional sense so you cant really compare it to these anyway.

I say the same to those who knock Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie, it is what it is, a televised pantomine. Not to be taken seriously.

Aye, bring back Mind Your Language and Love Thy Neighbour (I'm showing my age now!)....not really, there have always been shite sitcoms; there just happens to be more shite than before.

Yeah, but it's not funny, even if you don't take it seriously

In mine and your opinion, but its bound to be to some people, not everyone has the same sense of humour do they, i mean some people may actually prefer this to stuff to shows like the office spaced, peep show etc. Alot of people dont even "get" those shows.

Not only is it a shit programme they haven't even got a decent theme tune ! Whats fucking wrong with splodgenessabounds

Apparently it's done by a bloke called Christian Henson and I'd just like to say if he is reading this that he is an utter cock who ruined a quality tune

Christian Henson you deserve having your ears dipped in acid for that travesty ofd a cover version

The cunts biography thingy

What about that one with Jasper Carrott in? All About Me?
That's really plumbing the depths.
Perhaps I'm being too cynical, but it seems to be killing too tokenistic birds with one stone.

Yeah, didn't much like that one.

Also the one or two occassions I've seen 'Coupling' it's made me lose faith in the human race. :(

For some reason though, I've quite enjoyed My Life in Film, given me a good few laughs.

...

I did'nt think "The Kumars at Number 42" was up to much, just because they used the same formula for every episode - it grew a bit tiresome when the grandma was wheeled out again to do some unfunny "toyboy" type innuendos.

2 Pints is the worse thing I've seen on telly in absolutely ages (and that includes My Hero with the evil lip-synch baby) cos it's genuinely unfunny but believes it's own hype- it stinks. My mate went to Uni with the girl who created it- they read the pilot episode she wrote and basically said, yeah good luck with that one darlin' (snigger). They can't believe it ever got commissioned, and neither can I. Ralf Little could do so much more with himself! Like come round my flat and wax the lino in a pair of my Calvins for one thing.

It's not really about the human race though. It's about stupid young kids in the media in London who think that not only do they know all there is to know about relationships but that their view of same is of overriding interest to the rest of the world. In so far as they are actually aware of the existence of the rest of the world.

Sorry about that.

That's a bit overdressed isn't it ? :D

Me and my bestie girlfriend had a row about him last week, I'm convinced he waxes his chest, she say he doesn't.

Not really overdressed, I've had my Calvins a long time, they're basically a designer rubber band now. I'm with you on the waxing actually, a closet cub I reckon, let it blossom Ralfy dear!

Originality - 0/5
Storylines - 0/5
Humour - 0.000001/5

Conclusion: Its sucks!

Bring back Time Gentlemen Please for goodness sake :D

It's a sitcom. How high brow do you want it?

dont want highbrow.. but tpolaapoc (lol) is just so lame i think comedy has to have a bit of intelligence about it.. or else its just not funny.

then again, laurel and hardy were funny, and they were just daft.

But laurel and hardy was actually quite clever in the way it staged it's situations and played out the action ! IMHO daft comedy ( when it works ) is probably one of the hardest forms of comedy for people to get right , you need to hit the exact mark between not too daft or not daft enough !

Yes, and you'd expect comedy to have progressed just a tad bit over the 80+ years or so since Laurel and Hardy.
Laurel and Hardy were daft. They didn't look like they were trying to be daft. There's a big difference.

I am not the most expectant when it comes to comedy because I do love silly comedy more than a "thinking persons" comedy, but Two Pints of Lager.. is the lowest form denominator of "humour", along with My Hero and My Family.

If you laugh at these, then you're obviously friends with Timmy Mallett.

I thought it was shite but I kinda liked the 2nd series of 2 packets and thought the musical episode was almost good.
Its finished anyway and best forgot about.

I watched it last night and I was gonna start a thread on it (crap/not crap) but found this one.

I've watched it just a few times, always a bit pissed, and it may not be highbrow but i reckon its pretty good :D .. last nights episode made me laugh anyway. :D

Two Pints is funny as fook. Good old fashioned smutty lads humour. Used to think Will Mellor was a twat but he's great in this. Stroke of genius setting it in Runcorn. The only downside is the annoying squeaky girl who drives me mad.

what strikes me about it is the utter stupidity not on the surface but beneath. even comedy which appears stupid on the surface has some hidden depth, i mean even bottom had some quick wit and talented acting. however this show epitomises the mediocre crap which passes for quality programming, it lacks depth and thus credibility.

You all miss the knowing wink that says "people who are like this will find this funny, but you find it funny too because you used to live in a two-up two-down in [Runcorn/widnes/other post-industrial northern shithole] and know what it's like". It perfectly characterises the people I grew up with. The writers have quite clearly been there. If you've never had a night out in the worst club in the world because it's the only nightclub in town, if you've never made friends at the dole office, if you've never worked in a pastie shop and yearned for a real conversation then you just won't get it.

It's not big, it's not clever, but it is reasonably funny.

I've done all of those things (although replace 'pastie shop' for 'supermarket instore bakery') and I still don't 'get' it. Because there's nothing to 'get'. Comedy, fundamentally, has little or nothing to do with observation, it has everything to do with making people laugh, and this doesn't make me laugh. It is intrinsically shite, from it's very core.

It's not big, it's not clever, but more importantly it is no way funny.
