DS, if you're comparing the rolling stones to the twang i'm going to cut my own ears off and feed them to my cat.

i've only heard that song thats CONSTANTLY on the radio..the one about 'that MILF'.

and yes, as a fairly talented musician myself i am saying that they are talentless boring chancers that sound like about a million other bands doing the exact same thing. after hearing it again and again it gets really tedious.
 
brain jones was a true genius, one of the most talented and influential musicans of the last 100 years.

Make some better tunes than them while your there then, fair enough there is a lot of similar stuff about but imo these shine through the shite, as did the monkeys with their first album.

You still get absofuckinglute classics made with 3 chords and lyrics about shagging or whatever - simplicity more often makes a tune good mate.

And yes, speaking as a fucking talented, multi instrumentalist, producer, recording studio owner with plenty of cutting edge releases under mybelt id say your not making point. You couldnt possibly off the back of hearing one tune. Johnnymarrsbars ? Fucking johnny-come-lately if you ask me.

i just prefer to listen to music that actually has some creative depth rather than basing out tired simple first lesson chord progressions and going "ave it!!"

if the likes of sufjan stevens and the brian jonestown massacre got more press and airplay the industry would be a much, much better place.

newcombe was nothing but a complete gent when i met him, if only briefly..

he's a phenomenal talent, and though very prolific everything he does seems magical.

Give it Back, methodrone and Thank god for mental illness are particularly outstanding records that, apart from a cult following, seem to have gone completely unrecognized..not to mention the fact that without the BJM there wouldn't be a BRMC or a warlocks..both great bands now in their own right.

but this has got fuck all to do with the twang, i was just picking the bjm and sufjan as two examples of great talented influential artists who dont get any mainstream airplay or recognition.

edit: well i suppose sufjan stevens has nowadays, but its just really "the bloke who did that tune from little miss sunshine"

Indeed. Irrelevant. Im still waiting for yous to qualify your statements, which condensed down, basically the idea that you can know the essence of a band off the back of hearing one track which, you claim, is tired old three chord progressionyet the tune we are discussing is nothing of the kind.

i was getting ready to take the piss out of you but then i read this post and i love the BJM and the three albums you have mentioned are amazing although i would go with take it from the man over methodrone.

it seems if the singer or band mentioned didn't die from a drug overdose after releasing only one album full of themselves crying into their guitar,then this board instantly reacts with "fucking oasis wannabees"

so why aren't we discussing your music on this board?!?!? there are plenty of outlets for good music these days.
bands don't become big by being played on radio 1 anymore.people are no longer told what to listen to,they choose what they listen too,and it's easier than ever for "tallented" musicians like yourself to become bigger than "talentless" musicians like the twang.

Don't ask me why but today I'm listening to daytime XFM (I'm having to flick sttations every hour cos of the Red Hot Chili Cunts "new" single) and they're playing the new Twang single to death as well.
Someone must have handed those chimps a Whipping Boy record.
 
I like em - a bit of Mondays, Northside, Las, The Farm and the Inspirals into one. Propper music to swagger about to in the sun, feeling happy to be a common Northerner.
