AHH, fair enough - you're right, it does use the 'ticking bomb' scenario, but then there wouldn't be much drama in a TV series without it!!
But even within that context, despite what the initial appearance of the series may be, it asks a fundamental question about the efficacy of the use of torture, the morality of it and of the motivations of the torturer, plus the affect it has institutionally and on those around them.
