The Third Division Thread (League One 08/09)

Well 4-3's pretty good value for money :D i hope the team that played for the last 20 minutes turns up against leeds next saturday, if the team that played for the first 70 turns out we'll get tanked.

Pity taylor got booked for overcelebrating after scoring the winner - how come players like Rooney get away with making 'shush' gestures to away fans, but players in the lower league get booked for celebrating with their own fans after coming back from 3-1 down to go 4-3 ahead in the last minutes of the game? In whose world is this a bad thing that needs stamping out?

we sounded fucking abysmally bad on saturday, not particularly looking forward to tonights result either :(

excellent result for leeds last night (managed to watch it all on t'internet too) - nice hat-trick from beckford. it was also funny to see paul butler playing so badly for chester that he was substituted at half time....

"you're only here to see the leeds" :)

can't wait for oldham - should be a cracker, given that they'll probably bring a decent crowd and they knocked in a hatfull of goals in their first game (beat us last season as well, so we need to put that right)....

Great performance by leeds v chester. Mind you, chester were a bit, well, shit. It was 5-1 in 34 mins if i remember correctly. :D
chester really weren't very good and leeds weren't exactly going for the jugular in the second half. some great goals tho - although the first one was just a little bit too easy....

good to see burnage perpetuating the image of Leeds as arrogant fuckwits

You didn't look much cop Saturday, in comparison to previous seasons. I'd still expect you to be sniffing round the playoffs though.

It seems that Ian Dowie agrees with my assessment of our strikeforce after last night's Carling Cup game:

A relieved Dowie, said: "I think Swindon will be right up there. I think Maurice has got a very good side. I think Cox and Paynter are a real handful with good movement.

"Anthony McNamee is a natural threat, although I thought we coped with him very well in the second half. He is a proper out and out left winger. He gets proper delivery and they have players to finish it.

perish the thought! past experience has taught me to always be very humble when it comes to assessing the chances of LUFC ever achieving anything....

we do have great support though - and if you happen to compare the average attendance of every team in league 1 last season with how many people turned up when we came to town the difference is undeniable.

we did pretty well under the circumstances and I'm hoping for better this time around. so far so good....

So seeing the fallen 'giants' is good for a laugh, yes.

The novelty wears off, hardly any of my lot are going to Elland Road on 30th.

don't worry - I'm sure we'll fill your ground for you later in the season. another 6 points this time around would also be most welcome.... :)

I sincerely doubt that the ground will be full for your visit tbh. We had bigger crowds for other games last season.

yes, and we had bigger gates subsequently

I think I know more about our gates than you or Leeds United do

we filled your ground last season - its highest attendance ever for a league game - and I bet we'll do it again this season. Let me know if we don't.... :D

We also had the highest capacity we've ever had there last season. Don't flatter yourselves too much, we've had bigger league matches there in the past which would have drawn bigger crowds if we'd had the ability to get them in.

Do please let me know when you're ready to start patronising us with access to the full facts rather than some :)

Personally I couldnt give a shit about Leeds away crowds. Ive just been on the club website and except for a few restricted view seats at £26 the only seats left are £32 without concessions! Fucking robbing bastard Bates:mad:

First point of the season. Phew.

Swindon lost at Cheltenham who have signed a couple of decent players on loan - Hayles, Fleetwood and Myrie-Williams. Cheltenham possibly aiming to not have to pull off a miraculous escape this year. Anyone else have a suspicion Swindon could struggle?

I see Leeds lost at home. Chortle.

Nope.

Yesterday was poor, but we are actually looking quite impressive. If that makes sense. I'm having difficulty thinking today.

The Leeds result amused me too.

Fair enough, it was speculation based on not much.

We'll struggle if the new signings don't click. Another one coming soon apparently

A Brighton fan writes.

I was at Withdean yesterday. A poor game all round. Brighton dominated the first 60 mins, I don't think Rovers had a shot on goal, but we couldn't convert our chances. Gradually Rovers came back at us, and last 10 mins the equaliser was always coming. Two soft penalty decisions evened it up for both teams. Kuipers pulled off a world class save just before the Rovers penalty and prob saved us the point. All in all ultimately a fair result although you were there for the taking for the first hour.
