I hadn't seen this till I d/loaded it at xmas, and I have to say, it is imediately one of my favourite programmes EVER - I was so intrigued to see how Chris Langham's abscence hindered the show, but if anything, it was better than the originals.
I think, where it succeds as a satire, is that they have written highly developed and realistic characters first, rather than cheap jokes about the PM delivered by Rory Bremner types. - It works first and foremost as a drama and has as many moments of poigniency as laughs and thus avoids what for me is normally the pitfall of most 'topical' comedy - i.e. it's shit, cheap and only gets laughs because it is mocking targets people actively want to laugh at.
It's up there with Alan Partridge for me as my favourite funny thing ever I reckon - I look forward to rewatching it
