I'm glad I omitted the Not Crap option but sorry I started the thread.

You would all appear to be profoundly tone-deaf.

Naked Self probably not his finest hour but the rest sheer brilliance.
I saw him at Brixton A with that album. He spoke interminable bollocks between songs. I think he's been living in the USA too long. Ironic really.

Nah he loves the US. Never been a good front man, even the infected songbook includes cuttings saying he is crap.

He wrote the song 51st state - he didn't always love it.

You mean heartland? He doesn't say he hates the USA he just says the UK is the 51st state.

That song is based on Stratford apparently.

Sorry, yes, I do mean Heartland. And here are some of the lyrics:

'The ammunition's being passed and the Lord's been praised
But the wars on the televisions will never be explained
All the bankers gettin' sweaty beneath their white collars
As the pound in our pocket turns into a dollar'

he doesn't think it's a good thing that this is the 51st state.

There used be this 'Design' discussion/music prog on ResonanceFM and it seemed that each week's guest would, without fail, pick a The The song. Not sure what it says about the designers!

Remember the Infected film? Of course you do. Quite liked that. It was in my drug faze though so it might have been shite.

Where does he say any of that isn't good?

Isn't he a moslem convert?

Well I haven't checked much recently (due to his shit music output) but he lived in the US for quite some time if he's not still there.

i saw a recent 'where are they now' thing, he's not in NYC any more. He's up in the mountains somewhere, apparently, threatening a new album

Uh huh. All download bollocks.

Shame he is shit now. I was really looking forward to the bedsit CD of all his early stuff that never came about. Booo

Are there any funny bits in any of his songs or is his stuff exclusively humourless self important twaddle.

He used to do some acousticy things with some posh junkie bloke calling himself the king of luxembourg or something. Whatever happened him. Dead?

I think there are quite a few funny(ish) bits, but despite loving the first two albums (ONLY) they are as you say filled with pompus self important lyrics.

Some bits of pornography of dispair are funny for they wrong reasons.

Like most lyrics, the songs are neither funny, nor self important twaddle.

'Slow Train To Dawn', 'Armageddon Days Are Here Again' and 'Dogs Of Lust' are perfect.

Well Perfect was pretty perfect but those other three I really couldn't give too much of a stuff about. Slow train to dawn is the duff Infected track.

Where have you been Torchwood?

bit like this>
shame he'd lost the ear for a good tune by the time he hooked up with Neneh Cherry here. Alot of the early stuff and the unreleased album is beautifully strange and pushed the sound palette/song forms.
