The Telectroscope

El Jefe

.. the Rural Juror
the people behind the Sultan's Elephant (the official best thing in London ever) have got a new project - The Telectroscope - running from next week till mid-June

Based on a secret tunnel under the Atlantic, you can queue up at Tower Bridhe and see Brooklyn in real time (and vice versa)

Or something ;)

Is that for real? A secret tunnel? :hmm: Sounds wonderful, but why wouldnt they be using the tunnel for energy efficient travel for example?

Or am I completely missing the point and its all a stage act?

*feels naive* :o

It's only for the Sultan's Elephant to use ;)

I don't think it's by Royal de Luxe, the people who actually built the elephant, but by the people that helped stage the show in London.

Just recieved an email from 'em:
In our last bulletin of 1st April we told you of our next project, which involves a long-forgotten transatlantic tunnel and a pair of extraordinary optical inventions – Telectroscopes – that allow viewers to see all the way from London to New York. It has come to our attention that, strangely enough, some people thought the newsletter was an April Fool’s prank.

However now there’s a chance to see for yourself as the tunnel is now all but complete. If you should happen to be in the vicinity of City Hall in London or the Fulton Ferry Landing in New York next Tuesday or Wednesday, you may see something strange going on. And on Thursday, 22 May, a Telectroscope will be installed at each end of the tunnel, and will open to the public for the first time.

Always been pissed off I missed the Sultan's Elephant. Will definitely be going to check this out

Swung past this afternoon. A little underwhelming to be honest...

Might be more interesting if you knew people in New York who you could 'meet up' with, but there wasn't much explanation of what it was* and it just looks like a big round TV screen, which reports in the media basically explain it is.

Still, at least it's something a bit different.

*I know there's supposed to be an "oooh, what exactly is this?" mystery, but you need to know the 'story' of it too

Long dismantled, I'm afraid. Although the little girl in her spaceship are still due a reappearance ;)

I wanna see the elephant. :(

I'll try to remember to see the telectroscope though.

I wrote to Lambeth Council about planning permission for a tunnel to australia once. Apparently I don't need any.

Dear Government,

Please can we not do the Olympics, and spend all the money on stuff like giant elephants and transatlantic communication tunnels instead because it is much more fun.

Yours sincerely,

Teuchter.
