the supreme r.d.f. retrospective thread!

I would prefer a 50% split on all future gig fees, to avoid dispute and jealousy.

Unfortunately my only future gig at Brixton, might be jepodised by falling out with Welsh forum moderating team... :)

Wolfie is rubbish!!

Have me!

I'm better.. :) :)

Anyone else see them at the Hawkwind all-nighter at Brixton Academy (Dr Phibes and Levitation on the bill that night too)... 91 or 92...?

was that when dr and the medics also played? nearer 91 than 92 though?

Why thank you, thank you very much. Getting a manners lesson off Garf! :D

RDF are/were great :)

I saw them play a few times. Several times at The Severn Revels festival years ago. Iirc a few of the bands didn't turn up so RDF & Tofu Love Frogs (or mixtures of the two, when Chris was lying in a ditch or other musicians had gone awol) played about 8 times along with Doo The Moog :D
Mark McCarthy now plays bass for the Wonderstuff

he saw his mate shot, i think..? lots of references and allusions ('ryan never got near them'', 'm4, 65 miles west, junction 14'), and 'hot on the wire' and 'hungerford poem' are both about it i guess.

Not sure wether he actually saw it, but one of his mates was shot.

P.A.I.N. sound more like AOS3 that RDF imo.

Would have to agree with that...

91 sounds right.. Can't remember about the rest of the bill - I'd been at the T&C to see Chapterhouse and Slowdive earlier in the evening so probably missed some of the show.... (sighs for the energy of youth!).

Just remembered their version of 'Dirty Old Town'

I need to get a record deck!

they were kinda the same band rdf split up and became dff118 and the other rubbish one...

Wasn't it just Linda from RDF who was in DF118?

They were in another band bfore rdf too iirc - Miltary Surplus (?) from reading. I saw them a couple of times once in support for ak47s and once at their own gig where I met them afterwards too (woooo @ that claim to fame!). They made some strong political statements but I found the music a bit too plodding and ranty. I thought Culture Shock were much better.

I have been trying to remember the name of that festival for a while now.

I was such a mess  :D

was it severn revels that the police busted up with extreme prejudice a few years back?

I really was a mess I can't remember, the only memory I have is a big group of us blagging our way in and snippits of the Tofus

Edit: http://www.urban75.com/Action/news120.html

After reading that I do remember there being a bit of hefty OTT policing on the way in, I remember the feeling whilst blagging our way in.

That report is about a different year to the one I was at I think I went in '95

Can't remember it being busted (but as Lizzie points out... memories are a bit vague :D )

I rememeber it being a bit wierd. We were expecting a free festival that we thought was a replacement for Forest Fayre. As we got there the police were sending travellers away from the festival to a site somewhere else (they wouldn't tell us where). Think that's why there were some spaces in the line-up. When we arrived we were told it was £20 each, but we managed to blag it and in the process loads of other people who were standing around the carpark thinking exactly the same as us all joined us and we all got let in and wristbanded for a tenner between us :)
I remember the landowner getting arsey with some horsedrawn travellers. He thought they should pay more because of the extra space the horses were taking up

Apart from that it was a nice little fezzie. A Womens Institute tent selling jam and next to that a hippy flapjack stall giving away free acid :D

Think it was 95 we went Lizzie. I just did a quick google and even that said it was free!

I googled it too, did RDF actually play? I was surprised when I saw that.

Yes they did (see my OP :p ) I rememeber seeing them. I also remember seeing them minus Chris and them appologising cos he was "lying in a ditch somewhere".

saw rdf more times than i care to remember. I do remember one gig where they brought a camden street drinker they met that day up to sing backing vox at the astoria... if the truth be told he was infintiely more tuneful than mr bowsher... not a difficult task im sure you'd all agree.

Then i think i remember a show where an escaped prisoner, martin foran, made an appearance at one of their gigs... on stage! He did that a few times actually (turn up at gigs, that is), with the chumba's as well.

But I was a little under the weather that night <well under the table actually ;) :o > so the memory fades

chris and reliability were rarely seen together in the same room though hey? I remember a night at the robey where he turned up really late to play. First thing he said when he got on stage (attempting to regain his cudos to the crustie hordes) was that he'd been dropped off at the pub by streatham police (yeah right!) and he'd been nicked that day fiddling a gas meter.

My mate said she saw him getting out of a black cab as she came out of the tube station a quarter of an hour before the gig started
