The Summer Music Competition

Sorry lads, this is the first time i've really had internet access in about a month and have been out of my studio in just as long, wont be able to manage an entry till the first week in septmeber if anyone doesn't mind pushing back the deadline. Things a bit hectic.
Sorry for being an unreliable cunt.
Take it easy geezers,
Moggy.

Moving it back a week suits me. I thought it would be good to try and write a tune in 6/8  ,its a fucking headache, sequencing it and programming the drums and stuff is doing my head in, so a weeks extension would be nice.

No problems here moving it back. :)

If any one is interested my entry is being played tonight on Kiss100 FM on John Askew's show between 11 and 1 and also on MTV Switched too :)

Nice. What is MTV Switched? I haven't got Sky.

Not sure myself :o but according to my wife it a program about festivles, club nights and album/single releases. Hopefully to be used in a couple of weeks time :) .

Well thats rather exciting.

How the bollocks has that come about.

My entry is ummmmmmmm.....................................still comming.

I got some amazing new apps and have been a little side tracked to say the least.

I got an amazing orchestra package for kontakt thats.....well.....bloody amazing actully. Also have beenb screwing around with Reaktor a lot. Ive built several synths now although I still dont understand synthisis one bit.

Add to that Native Instruments Elektrik Piano which is by far my favorite new toy, and well, ive done fuck all really.

:D

what do you use to put all these apps into miniGMgoit?

I've been finding Reason a bit limiting recently. I really want to expand but I don't really know whats good to use.

In my opinion, Reason is a bit of a toy still at the moment. I mean, all they need to do is to support VST and it would be fucking awsome.

The problem with Reason is you can usually tell that a track has been made with it. Its not a bad thing as such but as you said it is limited.

I am a hardend Cubase user. Ive used it for bloody ages and although Ive tried other apps such as Ableton + Reason I always end up back at Cubase.

If you use slsk I can chuck CubaseSX up there for you. Its quite a small file for such a good app. Also you then have a whole world of plug-ins at your finger tips. There are some plug-in's knocking around at the moment that are mindblowingly amazing!!!!!!!

I would make the switch over to Cubase as after learning how to use it you will be amazed with what you can do with it.

Ditto the above, Cubase rocks and you can do so much with it. Reason is good for a drum machine but until it has VST support it's not much else.

Logic is worth a look and seems to be more popular for ease of use.

Once you've learnt how to use either properly you'll never want to go back! :D

Cool. I do have slsk but I havn't updated it for ages, it doesn't work anyway, and I'll need to free up a bit of space on my hardrive but once I've sorted all that out I'd be up for getting cubase.
Thanks. :)

So when is the deadline now guys? What happens after the deadline passes? Does a poll get set up and the people of urban vote or is a judge type thing where a select few get together in a darkened room and argue for days?

I havn't entered for a while, but it used to work by us all posting up our votes each for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and then we added it all up at the end. I assume thats how its still done.

Yeah it's still like that but a poll sounds like a good idea.

It could be done as long as we don't have more entries than the poll options allow.
Although I quite like the idea of a commitee debating it behind closed doors in a darkened room for days on end. :D

No time, no time

Once again guys I haven't had the time to get an entry together. Have been working hectically for the last two months and now that I've finished I've got some serious shit to sort out and it's off to Spain and then India...

So until next year that will be it from me!

Of course I'll keep sticking my nose in and having a vote when I'm able to!

And of course I'll be back in the future!

When does the voting start?

Peace

Th3 Saint

OMG.

All i have to say is Garritan Personal Orchestra.

wossat?

I'm currently using FruityLoops instead of Reason cos I prefer the FL piano roll and pattern sequencer. Is that thing a VST, can I have a copy? :)

Also, when's the closing date?

Aw man it just keeps getting better.

Ive been doing some really pompous Hip-Hop sounding stuff, bit like Unkle. I love it. It's my new favorite thing.

Yes!!! Garritan Personal Orchestra is a VST. I would have noramlly sent you a copy if requested but I now live in Australia so posting stuff is a bit more of a hassle. Ive done it for people before though.

May I suggest getting on to audionews.ru Its a bittorrent site devoted to audio apps. It basicly has anything and everything on there. Thats where I get all my shit from anyways.

I think they take new members once a month at the moment. Their user ratios are very high though so you must remember to share.

Cheers :)

Cool, I should a track or two done by tommorrow, i've been forcing myself to make some new stuff and sat here today for nearly 24 hours without sleep working on two tracks at once. I've been well slack this last year.

8 entries- that means we could feasibly do a poll to judge the winner. What do others think?
Personally I'm not really fussed either way...
