The stupidity of some car drivers...

There's no need to knock anything down. Well, I'm tired of restating the fact that the pavement is being used as a road, so why not at least tarmac it correctly so it doesn't get broken (like it is) and becomes dangerous to use as a pedestrian.

Bikes aren't the solution to everyone's transport problems. A lot of people around here drive a van for work reasons.

If you think I was saying that Bikes were the solution for everyone's transport problems you should re read what I wrote. Then maybe we can have a conversation about it.

No I don't want grass verges being used. That is the problem. I was talking about, housing that has no driveways or garages and where on road parking isn't a possibility. I think there ought to be somewhere legitimate to be parked if you live in a council house, terrace or flat if there is no parking available.

I don't want people parking on pavements etc.

Then CAR OWNERSHIP IS THE PROBLEM because you need to park your car at home when it is not being used so it will need somewhere to park at that time , the fact is there are not enough spaces for cars to park at peoples homes if they are not being used so what we are arguing is that the problem has been caused by a massive increase in car ownership .

The reason there is nowhere to park them is because terraced housing and council houses were never built with car ownership in mind. Do you really think only people in nice houses with big driveways and garages should be the only ones priviledged to drive?

If you readmypost you'd have seen I said that it was a fact that there werenot enough parking so I do agree with you on that point , what I am disagreing with is your belief that car use is the problem and not ownership when in this case the problem is car ownership as there are more car owners than parking spaces for these residential areas your talking about !

I think you have to accept that owning and running our own car is not right. It's a privilege. If I could afford to live comfortably and afford to run a car I would do so. However my income does not allow me to have everything I want.

Driving is expensive, this is why I think it's vital that everyone should have access to transport. If you assume that this means car ownership the poorest people and the 1/3 of the adult population that cannot afford or are not able to drive will be at a massive disadvantage.

Well, I am one of the 1/3 that doesn't drive (and doesn't really want to) I'm relatively lucky living near a west yorks local train station, but since there are only three trains an hour going in either direction, it's not quite the same as living on the tube lines.

It does restrict where I go a lot.

People are expected to travel further and further to work these days, therefore for many a car is not a privilege, it's the only way of bringing in an income.

I don't think it should be a privilege to drive, tbh, it ought to be accessible for all, but people ought have the choice NOT to have to drive. A lot don't (especially in remoter areas)
