The Specials Reform?

Yeah - doesn't he basically get molested on his Schooltrip to France?

Yeh, not sure that tracks actually 'hilarious', to be honest. He's fucking livid on that.

The More That I See.. is one of the most despairing tracks ever

Lynval and Terry were on stage together at Guilfest last July (Dub Pistols feat. Terry Hall, and Lynval's band, were both on the bill on the Sunday). They did a couple of songs ....

Someone said that was the first time those two had been on stage together for over 20 years ... that makes sense if you think about it, but the length of time shocked me!

weren't they onstage together with Lily Allen at Glastonbury only days before - to much hoopla in meeja and so on?

They were??

Wasn't around at that point at Glasto .... :o

My informant was clearly misinformed, if what you post is correct ....

And I thought everyone would go "yeah!! I always wondered what it made me feel like and it's like that! You're so astute pieface."

You wankers. It makes me a bit sad, okay?! It has dead fairground feelings in it. Dead ones!! DEADDEADDEADDEADDEAD.

*throws ipod out window*

aw PieEye- i was teasing.

of course you're right about the album. i love it because of all the reasons you state. it reminds me of that (bleak) time, more than any other album i own.

sorry for being a silly yesterday :) xx (i had drunk 1 1/2 pints very quickly...i will not be doing that again and coming back to work in a hurry) :o

They were definitely onstage with Lily Allen at Glasto - saw it with my own 2 eyes. they did Gangsters and I got all excited again. 'Twas worth standing in the mud to watch LA for:D

I'm going to wet myself with excitement on multiple occasions if they really do reform :o

Fun Boy 3 one - I have no idea what it's called.

There were 2 albums - Fun Boy Three and Waiting

which one d'ya mean?

e2a - ah, just read back and you were talking about Well, Fancy That (the song about the school trip to france etc) which was on Waiting, the 2nd album.

Yes, they did appear for one (Specials) track with Lilly Allen. Despite having a brilliant time at Glasto, at which everything seemed to magically fall into place for me, the gods allowed me to miss this one, despite my mates (who aren't Specials fans :( seeing it).

Jerry Dammers is playing at the Vicky Park anti-racist festy this month:

Here's hoping.

Jerry Dammers plays a lot of work-a-day gigs as a DJ, so don't get your hopes up too high on this one.

He's still in dispute with Chrysalis over his music, which is why he earns a couple of hundred as a DJ not thousands as one of our greatest ever songwriters - it's a bit of a crime really.

It's also something of a barrier to a reunion proper but..............surely they have to sort it some time?

i love Terry Hall so much.

do him and Dammers have history? as in, did they fall out at some point?

Very much so. Whole band did, by the time they made Ghost Town they were a mess. Lots of internal tensions and apparently Dammers was a bit of a tyrant. A talented tyrant but......

ok cheers, i was getting that kind of feeling but don't know shit about them really. hope they're sorting it out now for the sake of art, music, and us fans. :)

god i love Terry Hall. did i say that already? :)

To the point that Neville started calling him Massa. They were physically fighting in the end. But I always thought that Dammers had the vision and they were his band but it may have gone to his head a bit.

But a perfect first album and Ghost Town is the finest example of a musical zeitgeist that I can think of.

Rumour/speculation who knows??? but I'm hearing strong stuff -- and not just here -- that they will be added to the Bestival lineup. Reliable or not, I wonder?

If so that could put back pressure on our decision yesterday to pull out of going on expense grounds ...

Someone I know, who's a bit of an muso, told me that they're doing a gig in Coventry apparently.
There was also a piece on the local Midlands news last night... although they did say that it would be a 'nearly complete' line-up. Mentioned Hall and Staples but no mention of Dammers

According to this week's Hackney Gazette, Jerry Dammers is playing at Vicky Park on Sunday with a band rather than a DJ set. You never know!

Turns out that all that was bollocks about them coming to Bestival.

Festival rumours eh! at self :o

Maybe, maybe not.

Bestival always throw in a couple of secret special guests which are usually pretty big names. I seem to recall last year it was Madness and Hot Chip.

I would have thought they would want to shout from the trees if they had secured The Specials but you never know, I wouldent count out the possibility.:)

Terry's upstairs right now watching jeffrey Lewis. Maybe i should ask him about it. maybe I should just let him enjoy the gig and a pint. Veering toward the latter
