The Skinnyman appreciation thread

Respect to Skinny but he's a bit too preachy for my liking. I know that he takes that VERY seriously, and I'm not necessarily knocking him for doing it; it just makes the album a bit slow for my liking. Fuck the Hook is the only banger. I'd love him to do more tracks like that now he's made his mark.

Blade is still around; he tore up the Forum recently: MC'd in the crowd as it wasn't that full, and got Brixton boy Billy Bizniss (London Posse) down off the stage to breakdance. Wicked.

We've got loads of free exclusive UK Hip Hop on our player including Blade, Cappo (you MUST check Cappo if you want UK hip hop), Ironbridge, The Manoz, Imperial Leisure etc etc. Just so ya know.

Skinnyman is very good, I like the interludes, they don't seem out of place to me, if you don't like 'em you can always just record the cd onto mp3 and cut 'em off.

What happened to Blade and Hijack? What other Brit hip-hop is around apart from Blak Twang and Rodney P?

Might I recommend Pitman's 'It Takes A Nation Of Tossers'...? :D

there used to be a really good quite large Manchester hip hop label can't for the life of me remember what it was called, real chilled stuff it was and I've lost both the albums I had of theirs....

thanks :)

Isn't Grand Central the Beastie Boys' label in NYC...?

Aye, flip of the memory there methinks... :D

How apposite. We're bringing Grand Central to Brixton in September.

We've got Rob Smith (Smith and Mighty) DJing. Should be fun.

Grand Central albums were phat - are you referring to the one with the green ish cover with a red hot cooker coil in the middle?! Loved the Evil Kaneval tune on there...

Central Reservations or something?? Or was that the brown one? There's a tune on there with this lady called Veba on vocals which I love lots.

Are they doing any live stuff?

Think their live stuff is mostly with AIM - If I'm not mistaken, AIM are the labels band? But I could be very wrong
AIM is one bloke from Barrow-In-Furness called Andy Turner

I think it was a Rae & Christian night I saw the live stuff at but it was years ago in Glasgow and I can't remember much of it!

I may shuffle along to the Grand Central night though :)

:o

just realised there's an unintended innuendo in what i said

i meant his mum tells lots of interesting stories, that she's great in that way...

Veba sings on a few of the tracks on Rae & Christian's albums

We've tried to pull hijack out of retirement; but they're not having it. Kamanche Sly is still resident in Brixton tho, and was apparently restarting his career? Anyone seen him?

I saw GM Baby (I think they were called? A London 3 peice) at a squat party last year, and they were fucking excellent.

Anyone know if they have a deal?
