The ski season is almost here

:)

Insert obligatory rant about twaty skiers who think they have some god given exclusive right to the mountains and treat you as slalom poles (including a face full of snow spray) whilst your sitting quietly out of the way on the side of the piste having a rest.

It's ok though. Because they actually think they look good in those all in one suits.
*falls about laughing helplessly*

;)

I'm going skiing over Xmas and New Year. Going to Morzine/Avoriaz which is an awesome resort with loads of variety, massive runs but with a bit of character and of course "The Wall" an unmarked, practically vertical, ski slope also known as Jodal's Nemesis.

if you are prepared to fly a long way there is some good skiing in korea, but it's pretty cheap so it's crowded

re: snowboarders, the reason they piss skiiers off is cos they fucking crash into us and fall over all the fucking time. and seem to spend half of their time sitting down and obviously more time choosing an outfit than actually learning not to crash into people  (but i quite fancy learning to snowboard this year.....)

I don't mind snowboarders, I just don't think they should be on the same slopes as skiiers because it's not safe. A lot of snowboarders seem to choose slopes that are too difficult for them too, and as you say are just constantly falling over, then when they do go it's at an uncontrolled 150mph swoop, mowing down everything in their path...skiiers, other snowboarders, poles, fences...

you were probably born on them weren't you? :D

I can ski and sort of snowboard but I haven't skiied for so long I can probably only sort of do that so, in summary, I can sort of do both.

I'd love to go again actually. It's been a long time and last time it was just me and a boyfriend and we didn't get on too well :(

You lucky fucker

I have now decided I don't have to do the Wall ever again having done it three times. I think I've proved my point. I'm going to go down in the lift with the other girlies

Haha, yeah that's what my girlfriend does as well. There is actually a harder piste in a resort close to Avoriaz which is much harder (IMHO). The resort is called Mont Chery and I think the Piste is called Chevrenil or something like that. The start of the piste is basically a large drop or jump onto a steep mogul field.

*insert obligitory rant about the fact that skiers are just jealious and have far worse manners as boarding is clearly the better sport and has sparked of far more innovations which have made sking better which goes to prove this...besides the slopes aren't just for the class obbessed skiers you know...*

hmmm let's look at this at least from anicdotal evidence i have only every been involved in accidents by twats on skis who seriously shouldn't have been given feet let alone planks and poles... i have also had to deal with idiots on sledges who beleive that the backside of a roped off snowboard area jump was the best place to teah his kid to sledge... moron skiers falling of the drag lifts cos thye cannot balance or keep their legs closer together...

Basically i thin there should be two sections on any piste one for people who can actually do this and it isn't their first time are senitient humans with the abilty to look where they are going and have an awareness of things behind them.

the other is simply a large area with inflatable sides and snow covered rubber where first timers and people with no perifferal vision are left to slowly criple each other with out interacting with the rest of us...

Why can't we all just get along?
appently beacuse people seem to think that makeing bland generalised bollix statements about one group fo people is entirely justified asl long as it's dressed up in some form of class hatred or snoobishiness...

Isn't just a bit of fun though, skiiers taking the piss out of snowboarders and visa versa?

yup. we evidently need a tongue-in-cheek smilie for some of our snowboarder friends. :D

honestly, i went skiing a few times last year, and there were so many kids on the slopes on snowboards (with fucking excellent dress sense to be fair) but they were just rolling down the hill and falling over, sitting down. picking up speed, losing control and crashing into people

it's not bollocks, that is what happened. course there are people who can snowboard who don't fit into that box, but there where are lot of kids with an excellent grasp of the fashion but who were shit at snowboarding.

in a perfect world there would be enough space for everyone......

i wanna go skiing and snowboarding this year. how much does a week cost in europe? (hotel, kit rental, slopes etc)

600-800 quid all in I reckon.

The problem with boarders and skiers is the learners in either sport are a bloody menace and the fact that they make such different tracks means there's bound to be collisions.

that's a lot, am not doing that :(

don't agree 100% about learners, there are learner slopes where everyone is crap and you are all just falling about. it is inevitable people will crash into each other when the slopes are crowded, but from my experience the snowboarders seemed to be a lot more likely to do it than skiiers

I think you can get the hotel and train for about £300 ish but by the time you add in ski hire, lift pass, food and booze I don't think it comes in much under 600 :(

I've been crashed into much more by skiers than boarders actually but I can get out of their way. They fuck up my rhythm something rotten though so they piss me off :D

I basically taught myself to snowboard last year and I was shit and fell over a lot, but I didn't crash into one single person, skier, snowboarder, snowshoer, pedestrian... not one, it's perfectly possible! What's with the generalisations? There are inconsiderate idiots on all forms of transport dammit
 :D

that sucks. am so tempted to stay here longer now i'm actually booking flights home (the bus to the resort, ski hire and a pizza after we were done cost us about $100 each

tru say about the crashing thing. i just think there are more boarders, but it does seem to be ok for boarders to sit at the top of a slope in everyones way

That's because the top of the slope is generally the bit where you strap on the board - y'know the same bit that you as a skier spend approximatly 0.5 of a second before launching off down the slope...;)

I just can't be arsed with the snowboarding thing - if for no other reason than most resorts still aren't that geared up for them. Drag lifts look a nightmare on a board, and you have to laugh at boarders hopping along on flat glide bits where you can just whiz by on skis :)

really you weavel ... so what about short skis, ski boards, soft boots, clothing, safety equipment, leashes etc etc etc

As per usual you wander around like the fat oaf your are spilling out effluent in all directions hoping some of it will hit the mark... you just like dwyer...
