The shortest time you've stayed in a job

Just over half a day -

I was a student & it was the summer holidays, got a job via a mate of my brothers doing house clearances.....the first one we did was a guy who had gone a bit mental & been commited, he'd locked himself in his flat for 7 months, during this time he was pissing into 7-up bottles & shitting into carrier bags.....it was a hot day, the stench was a real retcher....I stuck it out as long as I could then........I quit after lunch. Not nice!

4 hours - when I worked in a crappy hotel in Market Harborough...made Fawlty Towers look like the Ritz...and even gave the manager a made up mobile phone number so he wouldn't contact me again!

I got a p45 for a job I didn't turned up to but I don't know if that counts.

Other than that I did 2 hours waitressing when I was at college and claiming Income Support. They asked me to sign a tax form so I went for a ciggie and never went back.

I've had loads of half day or 1 day jobs. I got a job at a bingo hall once (:o ) and was then offered a better job. I was too scared to phone and tell him I wasn't coming in so he phoned me every couple of days for about 3 weeks to ask me where I was. The worst thing was the job I took was across the road so I hid from this bloke everytime I saw him for a year.

Not me, but someone at a place I used to work at lasted a total of 7 minutes. He turned up, and as soon as he was told there would be some early shifts said it wasn't for him and fucked off.:D

He turned up early as well so he left before he was even due to start.

My brother lasted half a day at a potato sorting job one summer, just came home at lunchtime and never went back.

That happens a LOT, least he made it to lunchtime, some never get past morning break :D

I lasted 1 night in a frozen food factory, next day found out I had another job to walk into so left coz it was crap.

1 day on 3 occasions; bread factory [repetative, couldn't cope!], sandwich packing factory [repetative, couldn't cope!] and last attempt ever at factory work, in an egg factory which i would've walked out of at lunchtime if i wasn't so far from home with no cash to get back cause of getting a lift. When I tried to sleep I could still see the eggs infront of my eyes, arg!!

From a non-factory job, about 3 weeks before the move to permanent and so needing to give 4 weeks notice kicked in.

A couple of hours in a Met Police finance office. The first time the manager left the office a girl who worked there pulled me aside and said 'You don't want to work here, it's awful. Get out while you still can. It's too late for us, but you've got your whole life ahead of you...'* When the manager came back I said (quite honestly) that I had been promised a job in a totally different department and left. The cunts at my temp agency (I won't name them but let's just say that their logo is a blue arrow) had sent me to a completely different assignment.

*Somewhat embroidered, but not much.

I said pretty much the same thing to a girl I worked with a few years ago, who had joined us after uni - although she worked with us for about a year. A couple of months later she left and got a better paying job elsewhere. I don't know what happened to her after that but I think she did the right thing at her age.

As for me, the shortest I ever did was one day, at the Notting Hill Record and Tape Exchange. I love music but not even that could compensate for the tedium of the job.

5 hours

started work at a hotel in paddington where the manager put me down in front of guests as i didn't know how to use thier computer systems and bullied me till i cried on the front desk.. my dad's accountant had got me the job & it was my first job ever, so didn't want to walk out but had no choice... got such a big bollocking about it but so glad i did it now!

I spent less than a day working for a mental health charity, when i reaslised my boss was a drinking alcholic and an active drug addict.

The work would have been a really good job, and i could have made a real difference but i needed a boss who would be supportive, and not at the pub!... "working lunch"

3 days for a micky mouse outfit.
was in the pub on the wedensday night, moaning about how crap they were, after a few pints and on advice of my mates i decided twas not the job for me, so decided to get wasted and not turn in the next day, rather I would phone them and tell them where to stuff their job. On the way home I stopped off to phone my mam (twas the days b4 mobiles and never had a phone in the flat) - Anyway after the usual "i'm fine, how are you's" she said "Oh by the way your boss phoned earlier and said to tell you not to bother coming in tomorrow" - I was gutted, I was so looking forward to telling them to shove it - and they sacked me first
