The Shamen

They were a great band. What was the name of the guy who drowned?

I always wonder what sort of band they'd have become if he lived.

I used to love The Shamen, 'back in the day'. Listened to them recently and they were a bit crap really. :(

i listened to in gorbachev we trust last night, and yeah it has aged a bit, bit it was still worth a listen. i have lost my copy of christopher mayhew says though, so i'm going to have to go and buy that again now....

Will Sinnott drowned during a Shamen video shoot in the Canary Islands, if I remember rightly.

He was the political one in the band - previously they were dead political. Jesus Loves America and In Gorbachev We Trust

I've got a couple of the early 80s singles at home - one of which is anti-war track about the Falklands War

I was dancing to some wicked Shamen track on Friday - off the Em Tact album I think - just stripped down dance floor techno with no vocals. It was ace. Shame they turned out rubbish in the end

Hawtin did a 2x12" pack of remixes of Ezzagood:eek:

Classic

"your skin is wonderful...and you're covered in it"
"your hairs so very fine...and it grows right out of you"

priceless cheese:) and bloody MDMaaaaazing

Ebeneezer Goode was the ever first song I remember liking, and the first bit of music that was mine and not my parents.

I was 8 when it was released - and I played it again and again and again and again.
There must have been so eyebrows raised in my middleclass backwater when this little kid ran round the playground shouting 'Es are good' constantly.

Little did I know it then... but I was right. :D

Saw The Shamen a few times. First time was, I think, at Bay 63 (later Subterrania) with The Wedding Present and Tallulah Gosh. They were a full-on psychedilic guitar band with swirly circles projector lightshow thing.

I also saw them at ULU shortly before Will died. Didn't really like the post-Will stuff, a bit too cheesy with Mr C.

Somewhere, I've probably still got vinyl copies of "Christopher Mayhew", "Jesus Loves Amerika" and "Progen", which later became "Move Any Mountain".
