god, I'd forgotten what a hopeful football fan sounded like. imagine being that optimistic that you think palace will make the fa cup final, and get promoted.

I've spent too much time talking to fellow hammers, I'd forgotten that such light existed in the world.

That is, if Wembley is actually fucking ready.

No chance mate, the FA Cup will be over for you on Saturday. Are you going?

all depends on my work schedule dow`t it tbo ,the last time i saw\swindon play palace

was the play-offs years ago

I'm Palace. If we get to the play offs, I'll start beliving in miracles. Taylor is an abysmal coach, the most defensive minded man ever. 11 men back for every corner, so we clear it, and the 11 men just sit on the edge of the box. We did that against ten fucking men vs. Southampton and STILL let a goal in!

Tactically he's all over the place, he drops people for absolutely no reason and it's just not happening. I'm not one of the people that thinks we deserve to be at the top just because we were in the Premiership a few years back, but I certainly think we should be doing better than we are.

Cack.

3rd, which is good considering how crap we've been playing, I don't think we'll get second considering Terry is due to come back and our crap away form. It's been a strange season, we've had a lot of players below par, new ones not gelling and it's cost us in the league. Qualification for the CL and maybe a Cup.

Reading, I take it?

Who wrote you off though?

I remember tipping you to do the same sort of thing as Wigan did last year, as did a large number of pundits. Of the three who came up, few said Reading were all that certain to go back down.

It's actually Sheffield United who have impressed me far more this season, as I had very low expectations of them.

most tabloid pundits? motd? i think the exact words of one pundit were: 'i tip sheffield utd to stay up, and watford and reading to go down, they have just that bit more depth to the club.'

on the one thread on here i read about reading being in the league, most comments were pretty smug: 'goog luck to Reading- theyll need it! :D '

i didnt say anything at the time because for all i knew they could well be right.

another poster wrote: 'Reading are and always have been a mickey mouse club'

thats who wrote us off.

A bloke at work went to your place on Monday to watch West Ham (and wished he didn't), and was surprised to hear "We hate Swindon" being sung. Bless.

:D its the closest thing we get to a rivalry here, and you cant let that die just cos youve gone up a league or two. :D :)

:D ok, im not going to lie we dont have the history of your sheffield utds, west hams, and such like.

but theres more to our history then the madejski stadium/bandq carpark of today.

most poeple havent heard of a team called the thames valley royals. thats because oxford and reading fans organised protests and opposition to Maxwells proposed merger of the two clubs into the atrocity named above. add to that that we are over 130 years old.

we cant help the fact that there isnt a big team in the area. so until Maidenhead or basingstoke start vying for playoff positions swindon and oxford will have to do.

 If your saying maidenhead are close to you then why have you forgotten about Wycombe ! It's not really that far from Reading to Wycombe  ( and last time we played you I seem to remember Wycombe winning  )

We don't mind the fact that you regard us as rivals, in fact I think we quite enjoy it. As long as you realise that we couldn't really care less about you.

I think it's generally regarded as amusing.

Nobody would regard Wycombe as serious rivals though. They're too...nice.

Thats bollocks though isnt it? All the Swindon I've met hate Reading with a passion.

well, the tone of that post would suggest you do care. someone who didnt care wouldnt need to tell someone they dont care about that they dont care about them.:p

the rivalry thing only really works if your anywhere near the same league and occasionally play each other, or live really near where there is a significant geographical overlap of the fan base. neither of those really apply to wycombe, which is why, like i said, we have no real rival.

St.Pauli - Rubbish away form. Too many draws at home.

yep. i lived in st pauli for a year from about september 2005 to this autumn just gone, and i travelled home and away with them due to the amazing ticket and transport prices. they are playing shit this year. from a team that claimed to be promotion material based on last seasons perfromances and the cup run, its looking increasingly like a survival struggle. especially when you consider the leagues going to split next year when they make two new national leagues. theyll have to qualify in the top half to avoid relegation.

theres too many aging players who wont leave because there career is over (and they know it) and they know the fanscene isnt critical enough to force them out. bergmann going might help, but the problem is with the team, theres little motivation for league games, only when its a cup game on tv do they seem to care.

those who should leave/shouldve left long ago: meggle, dinzhey
those who are motivated and actually care: pliquett, morena, luz (but hes leaving on a free transfer anyway, cant say I blame him).

No-one I know hates Reading. There's always a bit of trouble when we play them, but there's none of the deeply ingrained hatred that we have for Oxford. We only hate Oxford. Bristol City come next, then Rovers. Reading would be fourth in the list, due to location I suppose, but that's hardly a proper rivalry.
