I've only seen the first two, but they're really not - Torture Porn was just a convenient brush picked up by the press.
I was very surprised how good Saw was - a clever and very intense thriller. Saw 2 was predictably a lot less good - a lot less clever for starters - but still worth a watch. Presume they've gone downhill since then but I'd give them a shot.

6 is getting into Freddie Kreuger territory innit...
After that it seems to have started getting all a bit "how many Dungeons And Dragons traps can we get into this".

The violence was certainly overwhelming - as intended - but unnecessary? Since the theme of violence is central to the plot, yet it mostly remains off-screen, how do you come to that conclusion? They were dull with unnecessary and overwhelming violence.
Isn't there a scene like that in Hostel too?The start when the guys being tortured and having his Achilles tendons slashed was too much and I went for the off button.
First one's OK. The rest are shit (only seen 2 & 3). They become increasingly predictable and implausible.

it's the worst kind of simpleton entertainment - vacuous nonsense with a veneer of some sort of moral content. If you're a halfwit.

I don't think I've ever seen a whole one through, but they look OK from what I've caught. Maybe I should download the first one and have a butchers.
And what's all this "Torture Porn" stuff? There's not nearly enough fucking for it to be classed as porn!
I know what it means, but it's a lazy and shit termI think the term "torture porn" refers to a type of horror film that features unnecessarily grim and gratuitous violence, seeming to relish in close ups of people suffering relentlessly.
