if you've got any sense, you'll keep it that way.

I think they'd send you fucking postal :D :D

Quite possibly. They're a 70s rock band aren't they?

The thing that surprised me (in a bad way) about seeing the Scissor Sisters was the fact that they aren't a disco band at all, they layer horrible classic rock guitars over everything. I don't think I've ever heard so many solos at a gig.:(

And although they do seem nice, their politics seemed to involve the idea that buying a Motorola phone somehow represents 'power to the people.'

"i asked you
if you'd like to
go and see the Rocky Horror Picture Show
You said you would
So I murdered your family
Cos I hate the Rocky Horror Picture Show
I'd rather go browsing round hardware shops"
I like both the Rocky Horror Picture Show and browsing round hardware shops.

I must be a really sad cunt :D

that's misrepresentative.

if you have a motorola Red phone, money is donated to african aids charities every month. they sponsored the gig - and scissor sisters agreed to play and were promoting the phone because they are very into aids charities (and other things, like rape counselling). it's hardly "power to the people" - more "be as lovely as you can".

It isn't misrepresentative, it's the exact words that they used. They also claimed that the Red thing was somehow 'making' big companies give something back.

oh, well i stand corrected - must have missed that phrase.

but i don't see why it's a bad thing.

anyway, we can talk about this in person - sorry for the derail.:o

I didn't say it was a bad thing though. Obviously buying a phone where some money goes to charity is better than one where it doesn't. Trying to dress it up as a political act, and somehow anti-corporate, when it's ultimately about a multinational company flogging product doesn't really stand up though.

But yeah, this thread was about something else at one point.:o

In reference to some of the criticisms, I think the songs are ace, it's a great musical! Admittedly I do adore musicals adn campness anyway :o I guess I just don't understand the venom, it's like hating Grease or The SOund of Music, it might not be your cup of tea, but it's just fun, innit?

p.s I don't like the Scissor Sisters. Although the girl is v.sexy.

i feel a whole new thread coming on, let yourself go and enjoy the musical for what it is! hurrah! free yourself from your cynical constraints.

oh shurrup, you're smiling inside when you watch them and you know it.

You'll be saying you don't like Dirty Dancing next? :p

Lol.:D I love Dirty Dancing, Grease, Rocky Horror, Scissor Sisters. Virtually everything dubversion hates actually, although we so share a deep loathing of Chris Martin and Bono.

musicals can be great - i own loads. But RHPS, Grease etc aren't among them

The only musical I like is the 'Jungle Book'... :p

The Sound of Music is the worse form of torture ever invented. ever.

Pops back onto thread to point out that even though I dislike them all, The Sound of Music, Grease and Dirty Dancing are made to look like wonderful shining beacons of joy when compared to the utter utter toss which is TRHPS.:p

Supertramp are just fucking great anyway they even had their very own hippy version of Bez.:D

All musicals are shit*.

They should be barred from ever being nominated for awards as well.

Rocky Horror is at the top of the shit mountain.

* Apart from The Blues Brothers, obviously.

I've always thought the Rocky Horror Show to be shit.. the one thing I can think of worse than it is The Blues Brothers.

:p

This is what irritates me. The huge snobbery there is towards musicals as a lesser form of entertainment, unless of course there is a "message" or it is "tongue in cheek". Why not just appreciate a musical for what it is? A big fun jolly up with songs?

Musicals were created for the masses as an alternative to the intimidating and high brow opera. THat's what they are meant to be like.
