The Restaurant Porn Thread

Scotts didn't excite me either when I went a few years back.

The chocolate pot was nice, but what chocolate pot isn't. And it was too small.

Aye, but we regularly get to go to all these so called fantastic Restaurants, but I'd still rather knock something up at home.

Better food, more fun, etc

Very few of the ones I went to impressed me.

Mirabelles was pretty good, but not worth spending your own money on.

Matsuri was probably my favourite place I was treated to, as much for the novelty and the performance aspect.

Tis why I like Christophers in Covent Garden.. basic food done well, at a reasonable price.

Too much ponce is wank.

Go to The Lobster Pot, especially if you like fish. It really is worth the money. I say this having forked out £90 of my own money.

I've been to the Gallery.

The cataplan (?) was good. Took a doggy bag home. :o

Both me and my mate's starters were a bit rubbish though.

It was nothing on The Lobster Pot.

A friend who lurks here organised his birthday party at a posh indian. I can't quite remember the name, but it was in an old library sort of Westminster/Victoria way.

OMG. Amazing food, deadly prices. I think the house wine was thirty quid. It's the most sober I or any of the present friends have left a restaurant I think. We were playing out of our league. Outside the street was lined with chauffeurs and exotic number plates. It was as if this was a diplomat's version of "coming to London? I'll take you out for a curry!".

(If you're watching James, next time, save us some money book the Ivy ;) )

I know I am bumping an old thread but thought this post would fit in here rather than starting a new one :)

Just been for lunch here

Absolutely wonderful!! The chef and owner was around to greet us and came out later to have a chat, everything was very relaxed and friendly and the food was excellent - the calves liver with olive mash was melt in the mouth delicious!

Plus the waiter was very cute :o:D

Pattaya in Greek Street......mmmm, full veggie menu.........uuugh, prices! (It's Thai, taking my mum there for her birthday)

Last week I went with loads of my family to the Riverford Farm field kitchen in Devon. Not sure how much it was (sister paid, but I doubt it's mad pricey or anything) but the food was fantastic and there was so much of it!
You get what they are cooking on the day, with veggie options (better than the meat) but there are loads of different dishes so you don't feel a lack of choice.
Everything was really delicious and when the sun went down it was a really lovely atmosphere, the sunset shining in from the fields

We went to a new Italian just opened in Bath, which I expected to be the usual rich cheese or heavy tomato sauce sort of place. The missus had a punpkin ravioli, it was cooked in some sort of Amaretto glaze - really sweet, but not to point of sickliness, which must require some considerable skill in the kitchen. It just worked perfectly.

My chicken pasta was good as well, a touch of cream with lemon can sometimes be disastrous but this was perfectly done.

Best Italian I've had in years.

How was the squid done with the pork, btw? Never seen that combo, but have been meaning to try cooking squid at some point.

which one was this then mattie ?

*sortuv near Bath*

it's on Gay St, near the Jane Austen museum apparently, still haven't been there myself like,

Gay Street runs up from Queen Square

This thread not only proves the evolution of Urban but that a lot of urbs would blend right in with creme of the crust of high society. :D

I wouldn't of course.

Was back over in London the end of April, took my girlfriend to the Ledbury in Notting Hill for lunch. Just had the a la carte menu.

For starter I had Ceviche of Hand Dived Scallops with Seaweed and Herb Oil, Kohlrabi and Frozen Horseradish whilst she had the “Risotto” of Squid with Pine Nuts, Sherry and Cauliflower.

For mains I took the Crisp Pressed Suckling Pig with Spatzle, Morels, White Carrot and a Reduction of Dried Chicory and she had Shoulder of Pyrenean Milk Fed Lamb Cooked for Twenty Four Hours with Artichoke, Fresh Curd, Wild Garlic and Dried Olives.

To drink we had Champagne to start and then a bottle of 2001 Château Langoa Barton, 3ème Grand Cru Classé.

Aye, weren't shabby.
