How annoying, filthygypsy - all good practice, but feels frustrating when you're stuffed around like that, doesn't it?
And well done Zenie, did they offer you the salary you wanted? :)

Ok, so I was offered a job yesterday - and also another freelance job as well, so quite flattering all in all. I'm interviewing for another job next week and can hopefully stall people to be in a position to pick which one I want of the two permanent ones. Otherwise I might just go with the first one, which is pretty good anyway. So I'm quite pleased, particularly given my current boss has turned psycho, asked me to finish up a week early by leaving me a letter on my keyboard when she wasn't in - nice. She's also refusing me a reference, so lucky I have others. That's what happens when you give nasty people ample notice, folks. Anyhow, I'm retalitating by doing as little as possible for my last week - 3 1/2 days until I'm out of the worst job ever.

Congratulations to you too chicky, as a leaving present i would put her favourite pen up your nose and then just put it back in its usual place, hopefully she is a pen chewer.:D Its always best to get revenge to a nasty boss, i used to just spit in their tea:D

Oooh, just noticed this thread.
I've had serious butterflies and loose bowells all week in anticipation of an interview for a job I **REALLY** want.
Academic interview process is a bit drawn out - I've got an 'informal' interview on Thursday, which I'm hoping is going to be an informal chat type thing and not too taxing.
Then on Friday I have to give a presentation (on my research) to members of the department in the morning, and then do a formal interview in the afternoon.
I've done quite a bit of preparation for this one, but I'm still nervous as hell. Only three more days to go!!!
:)

Congrats to Zenie and good luck Ms T - I have fingers and toes crossed for you. :) and good luck to llantwit ....

Shells, I've been thinking about your tea option  - I've had to make do with slagging my boss off to every agency I've talked to (about 7, word gets around quick in recruitment though) and people I know in our field to assist in word getting around about exactly what kind of a shite outfit this is. I'm actually really looking forward to leaving so I can stop feeling/being so bitter and bitchy, in reaction to her crap. Tbh, it's getting exhausting.

That's ok, that's only 3 weeks - could you do some temp stuff in the meantime if you're really skint...? Or get a cheap flight somewhere and spend a few weeks travelling on the cheap in eastern europe or somewhere - far less expensive than staying in London probably.... (Actually, I've just realised it's my own lifestyle that's expensive in London, others may be able to indeed live here far more cheaply than backpacking... :o )... Either way, at least you can relax now you've had an offer, something else brilliant may come up in the meantime...! :)

Regent Street babes so about 15 mins away

Well its not great but you might appreciate that time off once you start if you know what i mean?

Wry are you sure you dont wanna spit in her tea, i will do it for you :D as you say it will get round to other agencies.

Ms T good luck too

I had an interview today in Chelsea - it went well. Vey nice people and the job sound varied with potential. Hope to hear back from them tomorrow. Still haven't heard from the other place

Good luck to Ms T and to llantwit!

Congrats Wrysmile and Zenie!

Only just read some of these posts...

Fingers crossed for you boohoo :)
Congrats wrysmile... good riddance to your old job! Listen to ONS, she speaks sense ;) :D
Good luck Ms T :)

Thanks everyone. I am a complete muppet though, and just realised that my interview is next Thursday, not today. :D

It's for a Radio Four programme, and there are only three other candidates, so fingers crossed. :)

Oooh" Good luck everyone else. And ta for the good luck wishes from yous all.
Just off into the 'Informal interview'*.

*informal my arse

The informal one really was informal, btw. And I just came out of the presentation, which went fairly well, and I managed to field the questions pretty well, I think. Apart from one, which was fairly nonsensical anyway.
OK, three hours to go until the 'formal interview', and then I gotta run for a trai to Lundin so I can go to my mate's wedding tomorrow! Woohoo!
Good luck for next week, then Ms T.

I was in the same situation when i was made redundant a few months ago.

Did twelve interviews, now I have the job i want and i LOVE it!

For girls - I think be businessly but also a little sexy - I wear funeraliac black with fire-engine red nail varnish and eyeliner. Be polite but kind of bold and brash, Funny too! Best of luck everyone.

;)

you being serious??? really i think an interview is the last place to be "sexy", depending on the sector of course.

Seconded.

The image that you project at your interview is how you will be treated when you work there. Think about whether or not you want to spend the rest of your time with company wondering if you got the job cos your boss was checking out your legs. Selling yourself is one things, putting on an act and being something that you're not is another.

for journalism its kind of good to be a bit cheeky and sexy, cos you are competing against some of the cockiest know-it-alls who go to the Proms, have loads of connections, and degrees from Cambridge and Oxford.

trust me on this - personality goes a long way.

me fella's sis is a journalist. i think she'd be pretty insulted if she was advised to be "sexy" for an interview. mind you, she's one of them ones with a degree from cambridge, so she don't need to flash her stocking tops ;)

exactly. I have a first from UCD and loads of experience.

But everyone you are up against is brilliant, so you need to diffrentiate yourself.

I aint saying all out whoordom in any shape or form, just to look hot in your interview. Editors are prickly sorts, they have such a vast pool to pick from, it can be a fickle business and if possible, as well as good, they also want their staff to be charming and good looking.

I swear to you i aint joking - i have seen email exchanges between editors on this before (and i know i shouldnt have been looking) ;) ;)

Congrats to all the job-getters, good luck to all the interviewees!

In one hour I will be 10 minutes into my first job interview in years, feeling a little bit nervous...I have done some prep though, and tried not to cram too much. I really do want the job but won't be totally crushed if I don't get it, which I think and hope is a good start to achieving the necessary blend of enthusiasm and serenity to give good interview :)

P.S. I will be making more sense than this when I'm in there.
