The Psychedelic Furs - chat and stuff

I was really into them once upon a time.

Ghost in You
Sister Europe
President Gas

And Pretty in Pink (a great pop song).

I think the initial big money success in the states following Pretty in Pink (remember all those bloody awful 80's US teen angst pics?) spoiled their progress. They seemed to get side tracked by technology after that.

I still find the earlier stuff very unique (even if a Bowie influence is apparent - he influenced many).

They were a good band spoiled by money IMO.

And they're probably well into their 50s by now which might reduce the length of the screechy sax solos and Butler's strutting. Which is good, isn't it?

...am I the only one who feels vague stirrings of excitement? I suspect I might be.

No. that's made me unreasonably excited. dammit

It's a great album, although these comeback things are a bit weird.

innit. I love that album so dearly I'm sure it couldn't possibly be a win situation and yet I'm fairly sure I won't be able to resist. AAARRRGGHHH.
Every time I say that's it with this reunion play the classic album bollocks someone comes around to tempt me back. feckers!

It is a great album... I saw them in '87 when they were supposed to be past their best and they were pretty amazing from what I can remember...

Can't be arsed to seem them 22 years later though - much better to dig the record out.

Forever Now is my favourite out of their albums really, but I got into that just after they'd got into their horrible, crap American MOR phase. Although when I saw them on the Book Of Days tour they were back to being ace again.

Always liked their albums but saw them back in the day & wasn't that impressed with them live.

Music Machine circa '79/80, the only gig I've ever had to leave due to threats of physical violence.
(young kids these days don't realise how important is was to be dressed the right way at gigs in those days)

I remember having a few dodgy encounters both at & outside the Music Machine. Was a dangerous but exciting time to go to gigs.

I was at that gig!

Excuse the hefty bump but I was prompted into playing the Furs all day after giving the Horrors second album a spin, which sounds exactly like them. But not as good.

Poor old Richard Butler - he went to pay a compliment to Nick Cave and Rowland S Howard once at a gig (when the Birthday Party were still active), and they "borrowed" his cigarette and can of lager in return :D

I got to see them doing Talk Talk Talk at The Forum in October 2010, and very very good it was, too!

I fucking love this song. Bleak as hell, mind.

All of her lovers
All talk of her notes
And the flowers
That they never sent
And wasn't she easy
And isn't she
Pretty in pink
The one who insists
He was first in the line
Is the last to
Remember her name
He's walking around
In this dress
That she wore
She is gone
But the joke's the same

Pretty in pink
Isn't she?
Pretty in pink
Isn't she?

Caroline talks to you
Softly sometimes
She says
'I love you' and
'Too much'
She doesn't have anything
You want to steal
Well
Nothing you can touch
She waves
She buttons your shirt
The traffic
Is waiting outside
She hands you this coat
She gives you her clothes
These cars collide
