The PS3

Sunray

Its sunny somewhere.
Who is going to get one of these and why?

What games are you looking forward to?

I'm curious as to the reason behind a 425 quid buy. Thats some serious dosh for console.

I'm not getting one. Mainly because I can't afford it but also because I've just got a new PC, don't play as many graphics heavy games as I used to and I don't have a HD ready TV to play Blue Ray discs on.

i might get one from france... where they'll be the same prices as the rest of the world i'm dammed if i'm paying the speacil british price for it though in fact i'm pretty sure ther'd be about 250 in spain... when they are released based on current price of ps2 in spain compared to here...

Waste of money, may buy one in a year or two when Sony is selling them as cheap as DVD players. Xbox 360 is fucking face

Firky's right.Thats a stupid price.I bought ps2 when it came out and the best version to buy is the latest slimline.I'd rather wait for a year or 2 till it works properly.

Not buying one because I know I won't get £425 together but the main things to make me want it are
-7 pad support (if I can find 6 other people with pads)
-Completely fucking region free, which is significant for me because I like to play college level American Football, and I broke 2 ps2s fucking about with swap discs doing this
-Graphics

Won't be getting one early on, unlike the PS2 which I got on day of release.

The UK is paying the second highest price in the world for the PS2, only the Kiwis pay more (by $4). Even the rest of Europe pay $60 less.

Looking at the launch line up, there was nothing there that made me go "oooh, gotta go play that".

And Blu-Ray... meh. The films won't have any better plots, and frankly the DVD picture is good enough for a while yet, without having to start the whole region-coding thing again, when we're pretty much over that on DVDs... Multi-region DVD players are so easy to come by, why do they insist on keeping region coding on films, even after dropping it from games?

because they are an evil multinational corporation. Part of the overarching, money grabbing, fun denying conspiracy that is designed specifically to part you from your hard earned cash in as short a time as possible.

Not like Nintendo. They're run by squirrels. In flying goggles.

Not really that interested but my thinking is to wait (assuming I can resist the Wii!) for at least another year until all three systems actually have a good stock of games.

I guess Sony are really hoping people will see this as an opportunity to get a really cheap Blu Ray player than a chance to pay through the nose for a games machine...

HD isn't exactly cheap? How much is a decent 1080p HDTV?

Given that Bluray players are 750 quid, they are correct in that its a cheap version, but who's cheap is £425. Admittedly it comes with a decent games console and multimedia centre but I bet my Modified Xbox does at least as good a job and will until lots of stuff that I want to watch comes HD.

If there is one thing Sony do not have is a series of Premier games. They rely entirely on 3rd Party developers to come up with the goods. In this respect this is where Nintendo has the edge this time. The have 3, perhaps more, very respectable games that can sell the Wii.

There's no way I'm buying a PS3, even though I can afford it. I resent paying a higher price than the Americans and having the technology offered much later.

Plus I don't have a HD screen, and care naught about getting one either.

I'm going to get one but not until the price goes to £350 I like games and Sony but it's a rip off even if they are selling them at a lost - also I don't just want the machine I want the damn good games as well.

We get screwed on them in the UK, you're looking at around $1500 for a nice 1080P TV in the US and most of the rest of the world. That's for a nice one, cheap ones are sub $1000. That's not all that much, hell that's also for 1080P, most people would still consider buying a HD input for a 720P screen, it does make a noticable difference ime.

GRAND THEFT AUTO 4

Isn't that out on the xbox360 first? Anyway, that's a tired old franchise now so not likely to convince me to buy a whole console just to play it...bring on GTA Online!

My housemate says he'll buy one when the full new Grand Turismo comes out, saving me having to even consider it.

Which I wouldn't anyway.

Tired old games, better graphics. You're welcome. Blu Ray? Woo fucking hoo.

erm prolly becuase of content issues which will of course depend on your cultural background and what your culture finds acceptable... it's likely to be a censorship thing... and DRM kinda does away with regions anyways... intrestingly it still has the regions for ps2 games which means euro ps3 cannot play usa games or japanses games etc...
