The pro's and con's of short/long hair

Does your hair grow fast? my natural hair is now past my shoulders and thats about a years growth, if it's fast growing take it all of :D

It's having to have haircuts that keeps me with long hair, despite the pain in the arse of having to spend ages brushing it every day etc. I hate haircuts. I have rarely had a good one.

Long hair is good because you don't have to get it cut very often and you can hide behind it.

Short hair is easier to look after (apart from having to get it cut more often).

I tend to keep mine somewhere in between now.

I wish I had hair like those dollies with the retractable hair when you move the arm up and down :(

it doesn't help that all hair suits me either

I said the same thing to my hairdresser last week.

I also said I was growing my hair, because I had the idea that long bright pink/blue/red hair would look cool.. but he thinks that would be bad.

So I'm keeping it short.

long hair:
-can style in loads of ways; up, down, curly straight, bohemian waves, twisty bits, plaits
-takes ages to wash and to style
-you DO do need to cut if regularly or else it looks scraggy. if you dont then you neeed to cut it short next time you want a trim
-looks nice blowing in the wind
-gets expensive once you buy conditioner, styling things, trims and accessories
-gets caught under your handbag (or is that just me)
-makes your carbon footprint bigger because of all teh heat styling you do to it

short hair
-will grow back
-takes less time to dry and makes your conditioner last longer
-is good for fiddling and for twirling
-looks great with fancy pins and accessories in
-takes a while to get used to
-great for back combing and messy hair
-generally less of a faff

IMHO it depends on hair texture as well as what your scalp is like.

Short hair tends to be better on people with hair that's either properly curly or dead straight - a slight wave makes precison cuts look messy. OTOH if your scalp's even slightly oily, you'll have to wash your hair v often while it's short.

Long hair, okay it takes longer to dry and wash, but it's not much of a pain because you really don't need to do it as often. Also, if your hair looks untidy when cut short, the weight of longer hair tends to pull it a bit straighter. When it gets a bit oily, it's much easier to keep plaited, twisted, or in a bun than if you try to do the same with freshly washed hair.

I don't understand why people have long hair but always have it tied up.
I didn't need to tie my hair back before I moved to London, but the number of times here that complete strangers on the bus have pulled at the ends (not split ends), commented on it etc every time I've worn it loose for more than a short time in public, it's just not worth the hassle.:(

Long hair (unless you mean v thick and well below waist length) is only heavy when wet, and seeing as I use a microfibre towel, I don't need a blowdryer 99% of the time (never had tongs). Short hair really doesn't suit me (too expensive to keep trimmed too) and is too much like hard work (keeping it tidy) for me. But your mileage may vary.

Long hair is much more of a faff to live with. I've had hair down to below my waist, and I never knew what to do with it. It just lay there, unless I put it up in a ponytail. I don't use a hairdryer, so it would lie there, like rats tails, half the day until it dried. I had to wash it more than I do now I keep it short.

In fact, the only good thing about it was that the "straight out of bed" look was sexy..

Haircut expenses for last 8 years ... £15 from Amazon I think

Compared to compound interest on however many haircuts per year.

Waist length hair is never a good look on an adult, imho.

Short hair is far cooler in summer. I get short hair twice a year. The rest of the time I'm growing it out. Peole often think I've had haircuts intween as it doesn't look dreadful (and I don't see people that often).

So I'd say short hair is comfortable and stays interesting. I don't need another haircut to have a change. Oh and it's easy to wash and dry which is handy when my arms hardly work.

Do you tend to do something once the idea is in your head? Just chop it off. :)

I'm feeling indecisive... somebody give me some fucking answers

to start off...

Long hair pro's
can do loadsa shit with it like bunches etc

Long hair con's
it blows around and stucks to lip gloss and shit

Short hair pro's
easy to manage/style

Short hair con's
cant really put it up or anything if it pisses you off

I'm sure theres more stuff I haven't thought of...

keep your hair long teeps!

I've had long hair, short hair and in between hair, and for the foreseeable future its gonna stay long. I've got lots of straight but quite fine hair and a round face and I've never found a short style that looks good without hellish ongoing maintenence.

However, for some reason it looks good if I put it up:confused:. I would have thought that would look kinda the same as having short hair:confused:?

I agree - I saw some woman going down Brixton Hill the other day with long hair past her bum and Dub said it always looks like they never got over being Daddy's Little Princess with hair like that. He's right too :D

Except if you are old and it is white - then it's totally cool again.

Short hair is funkier. I think you should get it cut short teeps.

Hope all this is helping btw :D

i never understand why some people with really long hair still have little short fringes .. plymouth brethren stylee

it's staying long because I've thought about it and tbh using a hairdryer all the time to do me short hair is just gonna make me feel ill, still gonna have like 5 inches or so off the bottom cus its all gone to shit.
