The Prisoner is caught again!

He seems to resign on a matter of principle, and it seems that people are subsequently trying to find out why he resigned. By very, very roundabout methods.

What they want of course is 'information...information' - whether it's explicitly why he resigned, or the sum of his knowledge is never clear. It would be too obvious which side was running The Village if we knew just what info they were after.

ITV are doing the remake? It will be targetted - like all of their output - at housewives from the home counties. Doooom. Doo000om!! I henceforth blank it from my mind and shall never think of it again.

I dread this turning into Austin Powers Lite :(

e2a: Well... hyactually, I don't. As I don't own a TV and I'll never make the effort to chase it down, unless the reviews are something phenomenal :D

hmm, interesting. Mad Men has been good, what I've seen of it.

This won't be brilliant. But if it's half decent and intriguing enough it'll do me. As long as it doesn't have a nicely wrapped up ending, it has to try and equal the 'what the fuck was that?'ness about the original

The head bone's connected to the... neck bone!

Hmm.. seeing as I could be accused of being a houswife from the home counties, and also a massive fan of The Prisoner, you leave me no option but to kill you in the face.

I found this old interview with Patrick McGoohan to be quite entertaining:

http://www.cultv.co.uk/mcgoohan.htm

Third Boy:
Would you say that there is a distinct lack in the rest of the villagers? Are they soulless beings?

McGoohan:
Ah, the majority of them have been sort of brain- washed. Their souls have been brainwashed out of them. Watching too many commercials is what happened to them.

I wonder how little chance some of my favorite Prisoner quotes have of being in the remake, eg:

'humor is the very essence of a democratic society'

Im not so sure about THE PRISONER myself. I remain unconvinced about the original's "greatness" - what is it about, seriously? - and a new, post-9/11 spin on the original concept could work very well.

it's a six part mini-series being filmed in Namibia, with the rather fetching Hayley Atwell as a 'kind of' love interest, and should be shown later this year.

they just showed a clip on newsnight review, looked great!

well, it lasted for about a secnd, so it might have been a bit hard to make a proper judgement of the quality

I wonder if we'll see the return of those ridiculous hunter-arrester white ballons...

In one episode, he actually seems to escape from the village, gets to London, feels all happy with himself, and then it turns out it was all an elaborate illusion. Gutted.

Rover.

And you're thinking of episode #2 (or #3?) The Chimes of Big Ben.

I'm slightly shocked that the OP suggests there'll only be one Number 2. And the person who says that Number 6 is Number 1 and is testing them all, is simplifying things more than a bit

By the way, I've just had a quick (long) look on ebay for the box set. Which one is it you've got? The 35th Anniversary or the 40th? And what did you pay, if you don't mind me asking. :hmm:

:D

Aware of that. How does him being a "crap spy" in Danger Man have any bearing on the subject matter of The Prisoner?

Because the proto-Prisoner episodes (2?) sprang from Danger Man & he got much of the ideas & directing skills together whilst working on Danger Man.

It would probably be fair to say that without Danger Man, The Prisoner would have been a very different series, if it got made at all.

I saw loads of those white blobs on a field we drove past the other day!
Maybe I should return to tell the farmer he's got undercover balloons behind the barn!

</ threadkiller >

Anyway... Back on topic: I smell this remake will be made of fail... Especially, as others say, if they just try to recreate the original without adding anything to it.. What would be the point? :(

yeah, bit of a disappointment that in a way. tho its good they aren't just going to copy the last series. And if you have Ian McKellan lined up, I suppose you dont want to waste him on just a single episode.

I had the 35th Anniversary on VHS; I have the 40th Anniversary on DVD. I think I tried and failed to give away large chunks of the 35th on VHS on the recycling forum!

£35.97 for the 40th, I think the 35th (back in the day) was £50 for the full boxed set.
