Surprised nobody has mentioned the old Saabs. Mind you, not exactly a city car but very practical-classic otherwise. :)

well im going with one of these over the choice of th three given. It was first car. (and if my memory serves me correctly one of the first 16v motors). Pretty nippy too.

I voted Beetle, cos I love em. The OLD ones, of course!

We had Beetles as our family car all through my childhood - and I loved the sound of them, as well as the boiling hot black plastic seats in summer that would burn your bum :D

First we had a black one, then a navy one, then a yellow one. My mum, being 4 foot 9, could only just see over the massive steering wheel.

It was a sad day, when my dad moved on from Beetles and decided to get a Golf. Having said that - the Golf he bought, in the mid 80s, was pretty groovy actually. Probably a classic now.

They're Nazi cars - but I love em ;)

I went for the Morry Thou but my judgement is clouded by one I used to know that had a twin cam Fiat engine in it. That fucker could shift :)

There is only one true classic

Yes! DS gets my vote for beauty, practicality and safety. Saved my life when I rolled it down a B road – and you thought that fibreglass roof was flimsy:)

i have to choose the beetle. lovely vehicle, ridiculous of course, but full of charm. then the morris,i'd drive one. never been a mini fan though.

You are all so very wrong.

As much as I loathe urban 4x4s and Chelsea tractors, the classic Land Rover has a place in my heart just cause it was designed to be used for something other than taking the sprogs to school then hauling groceries from Sainsbury's, and that they are built to last. A very practical, low-tech machine, 70 per cent of all Land Rovers ever built are still running (so says Top Gear). Also a friend who drives an 1988 model has said that his Land Rover will have emitted less carbon in its lifetime than a modern Toyota Prius hybrid will during its lifetime, just because they are so durable, and that includes carbon emissions involved during its manufacture as well as when it runs. It can also run on vegetable oil, as the same mate demonstrated.
