The Phwoaar Cake Thread: All Cakes, All the Time!

Wow Hanano is one already :) congratulations!

Malteser and marshmallow cake is very fitting.

Yeah, she only had a very tiny bit. The only sweet stuff she knows is fruit and calpol, i'd like to keep it that way for a while.

I pretty much made up the recipe but I'd never done icing before. Did you know it's pretty much just butter and icing sugar!!!!!!!!

Aqua, can you recommend and how-to cake decorating type websites?
Mate, kudos on the sushi cakes:cool: Deeply cool!

You are a good daddy :) How do you get round friends and relatives feeding her sweeties?

She is going to burst with joy when she discovers sherbert and lollies! :D

This is a malteaser cake that I made:

Moomoo, you were my inspiration for the malteser cake!

I remember that birthday cake and how you ate the spare maltesers without so much as offering the bag round.

I don't know what you do :o
But I want to make novelty cakes that blow my friend's minds

some of the stuff I do is here :) http://www.pbase.com/aquasphotos/edible_stuff

if you like the novelty stuff you can't go far wrong with Debbie Browns cake books, she's a really clear writer. Don't use her recipes though, theycan be a bit dry :)

also have a look at her wallace and gromit cakes :D http://www.debbiebrownscakes.co.uk/wallace_and_gromit/index.htm

I've met her and had a class with her, she's lovely

Sorry about the malteasers. They were too lovely. :o

aqua started it all off! She made one first and it was so yummy that the teen demanded one for her birthday. :D

Thanks :) And wow! Your stuff's amazing. Those roses!
I was thinking when I was doing the sushi that the cake would have been easier to decorate if it was more dense and moist (like banana cake :o), so dunno why she'd allow dry cake recipes to slip through.

Maltesers were the insparation for mine. I love um so I put some on. I also love the choc chunks so there are a fuck load of them inside. I used to make cakes with marathon bars, mars bars and cream etc. You could feel your heart dieing.

its nothing to do with her letting them through as such, it's personal choice. When you do novelty cakes, what you need is something that is strong enough to carve, and to do that (as with stacked cakes) you need a special type of sponge cake. Many people use madeira cake as this suits its need but can be a dryer cake :)

don't forget, you can easily end up with around 1.5kg of icing on some cakes, so they need to be able to support it :)

you remembering that wedding cake again :D

I've never forgotten it. :(

Atomic - if you want to feel your heart dying, get the recipe for aquas white chocolate cheesecake. You can feel it clogging up your arteries as you eat it! :D

And you are of an average girth around the middle (so to speak!):hmm:
Those snickers/ mars bar tray-bake things would be the undoing of me if I ever learned how to make them.

I have a fabulous brownie recipe too
You are a wicked, wicked girl!

Ah but I am having to have a bit of a think about what I eat after that birthday week. I was just thinking about that now as I was eating the trimmings of that cake you saw earlier (To get it into two nice flat cakes that I could fill with jam and cream in the middle)
