The People Writing Contest, voting anonymity or no?

Pretty much. It's difficult enough showing people your work without it being a popularity contest too.

And some people would vote for the person, not the story - as long as the story's a decent one. Some people would like to be seen to be voting for particular people. Not everyone is pure and bias-free.

But the decision's been made. The stories and the polls are public. That's what got decided, that's the way it is. *shrug*

Fair enough.
I haven't been on here long enough for any kind of popularity contest style voting to affect me so I didn't consider it. I honestly thought people would be grown up enough to just vote for their favourite bit of writing, especially if they had taken the time to read all entries.
On this basis, I vote for the poll to be anon so people do not pull out, as that is a shame.

Shall I just ask the mods to ditch the thread and do it again anonymously?

I really would prefer it if everyone's story was involved

I don't know, but I would also not like people to be put off from contributing.

I say leave as is and then depending on the results of this thread poll act accordingly next month.

s'only second run. Teething issues are natural

Thing is, people don't know (except one poster who has used his real posting name) which thing is by who. The only thing it's going to affect is that the writers can see who voted for them. I don't see why it matters. I'm not going to be upset if someone I like didn't vote for me.

BUT if it means that people are actively going to withdraw their entries if its a public poll, then next month I'll revert to anon

If vanguardist scum place so little faith in the objectivity of their fellows that they would deny them the product of fruitful literary labours then perhaps I should bow to their trotskyite nature. Was it not ever thus?

I know theres at least another contributor who feels the way i do. We did think it was meant to be anonymous.

Oh I totally agree. The problem is, they feel differently, for whatever reason they do not want to know who voted for them...even though the voters wouldn't have a clue whose stories were whose unless they chose to tell them.
This is meant to be a bit of fun so it would be a shame to ruin that fun by making people uncomfortable.

Anyone - crispy, editor, fridgemagnet...

I've already PMed editor once telling him to change it and then another saying don't worry, so probably best to try another mod :D

TBF on the two dissenters, this is really all my fault for incompetently setting up the poll...

I seconded, belushi thirded and motion passed.

Belushi dissentented later, th counter-revolutionary cunt.:D

All the stuff about lefties being unable to organise is TRUE!!!!:D

Fucking hell. Sorry but if this thing is based on tantrums and threats of withdrawal over whether a poll is anon or not, I'm not sure I can be arsed with it in future.

I only know who wrote one of the stories because whoever-it-was fucked up the poll and now I have something cool to read on the tube home tonight

I don't, however, think this was the outcome that was intended at all :hmm:

I don't think it's that big of a deal. Some people thought it was going to be anon, proceeded under the impression, when udw made a mistake on the poll they wanted to withdraw. That's fair enough.
