The Peace for Israel and Gaza Rally in Trafalgar Square today

If this kind of thing happens on a regular basis in connection with a particular type of demonstration it's reasonable that the good order of the community should come first.
So the fash turn up at every little demo, pretending to be protesters but starting violence, and all demos get banned? Great idea.

I'd like to think a lot of things. :D

Point is such a law would be far too easy to abuse.

Besides, what control do organisers have over the people who take part? If the cops can't stop the violence, how can the organisers?

My understanding is that the law already exists and can be invoked if considered necessary.

If demonstrations were banned from time to time I expect organisers would be a little more careful how they went about things. I've been on many demonstrations and it's very clear which ones will tolerate violence and vandalism and which ones won't.

I've been on many demonstrations

Palestinian deaths in the Gaza Strip reach 1,028 according to Gaza medical sources. Nearly a third of the dead are said to be children

Think a bit of unrulyness is called for Un-Hinged, dont you?

I support the right to protest. That doesn't include a right to smash up private property or attack the police.

Are you on drugs? This is engineered to whip up chaos so the SWP can offer the solution.

A hell of a lot of unrulyness is called for.

And next week we can be unruly about Zimbabwe, the week after that, Guantanamo, the week after that, AIDS, the week after that, Heathrow...

No, I don't think any unruliness is called for. At all. Ever. What possible purpose could it serve except to feed into the petty fascistic tendencies of the troublemakers?

Please use my name correctly or not at all. Do not construe this as an opportunity to derive an even more "amusing" adaptation of it.

I wont mess with your name then I'll just call you a piece of retarded shit then - better now?

You have little knowledge of this countrys history if you think it has been forever filled with forelock tuggers who knew their place
It is perfectly correct that we show our displeasure by taking to the streets - no major social change has EVER happened in this country without a bit of unruliness by the "mob"
It helps keep our rulers on their toes
It shows that people will risk their own well being for a cause

Ignored. I'm happy to discuss the issue but I have a pretty low tolerance for that kind of gratuitous abuse.

I suspect you have pretty low tolerance, full stop
Why stop at banning marches you dont like?
I'm sure with modern genetic profiling it would be possible to spot those of "deviant tendencies" - so you could have them sterilised and pretty soon the entire population would be lovely and compliant

It wouldn't have made any difference.

That's because of the cnuts like you that happily went along with it. I'm sure Tutting at some of the worst atrocities, but shrugging that it was all in the interest of "industry and decency". Nice tagline.

He only sees unruliness when it's ordinary people doing it. If it's a copper breaking a skull or an F-16 bombing some defenceless refugees that's alright with untethered

Violence is always unpleasant, which is why I will only support its use when lawful and necessary.

You do realise this gives the powerful a monopoly on violence?

We are fortunate to live in a democracy and where that democracy is deficient we should work to improve it.

That doesn't mean getting a mob out onto the street every time the government makes a decision you don't like -- let alone to protest against a situation in a foreign country in which ours has no direct involvement.

what democracy?

what democracy?

Try participating in the democratic process rather than lobbing sticks at policemen and you might discover it.

Affecting that we don't have a democracy in this country is a serious insult to the countries that really struggle from living under tyranny.

I ask you again - what democracy?

What do you understand by the term "democracy"? Because to me, it means everyone having a say in how things are run. I don't see this happening.

It doesn't happen perfectly, and importantly, cannot happen perfectly because it is a fallible, imperfectible human system.

But if the word "democracy" means anything at all it means political systems like the one we have in this country.
