HOW DARE YOU PUT IN ACID JAZZ WITH JAZZ FUNK?
Acid Jazz is poor Jazz Funk, so need to mention Jazz Funk

Agreed, Dub's a shyster.

that's like putting 'line dancing' in along with 'Johnny Cash'

98% of Jazz funk is, however, still crap. But 100% of Acid Jazz is very crap.

i'd say funky house is the over-compressed stuff that gets in the charts and dominates all the ministry/hed kandi/ibiza/blah blah blah comps. beatfreakz, uniting nations, boogie pimps, eric prydz, that sort of crap.

I know that there are worse things that RnB (Which is how I would tend to differentiate stuff I don't like from stuff I do like R&B) but trance just doesn't bother me, Bedwetter I can ignore, Jazz Funk just washes over me making no impression what so ever so it comes back to RnfuckingB which constantly hands me paper towels when I'm taking a piss and wants me to pay for the privilege. And if you want a club night more than usually populated with people who I don't want to know then just look for RnB on the flyer.

I disagree with your classification of 'dad rock' though. Surely the bands you list are 'Marks and Spencers Indie' or 'Cod Indie', whereas true Dad Rock is stuff like Dire Straits and Eric Clapton?

what differentiates funky house from just 'house' or deep house or tech house, or commercial house...(dont just say its funkier...)....is it the word funky people object to (as its a stupid word) or is there actually a genre of music called funky house that I am not aware of ....(I have been a fan of a lot of house music over the years and am not sure I know what funky house is). For those that dont like it.....do you like other types of dance/house music? if so what is it you object to about 'funky house'....

Funky house is the room in an otherwise sweaty lovely vibrant club which is dull and posey. You'll see people bouncing in every other room whereas in the funky house room it's grim.
I couldn't give any examples as I head in the other direction.

well dadrock was a common term in the music press for the Oasis / OCS type bands, and it got used on the thread so i stuck with it.

Dire Straits and Clapton are AOR, surely?

That's not true of any places I have been to that play funky house, the crowd is always dancing and having a good time. I will say that there is a slightly rough element that is coming into the funky house scene from the old garage scene but they tend to follow a certain set of dj's so can be avoided.

can you tell me what funky house is please? Is basement jaxx funky house? is DJ Sneak funky house? Is derrick carter funky house? Are DIY Funky house? are layo and bushwacka funky house? Are SLAM funky house?...give me some reference points so I can either agree or defend it.

None of them are funky house. Funky house is what used to be called handbag house. Cheesy disco riffs and diva vocals and no funk whatsoever.

That's Grandad Rock now - there's a new generation of Dads.

I had to vote for dad rock/bedwetter in the end. All the others, I can find at least one tune I like. Even psytrance (euphoric trance is a different matter).

FYI some commercial funky house tunes: -

Precious Love - Blaze & Barbara Tucker
Boogie 2Nite - Tweet
My My My - Armand van Helden
Fish Go Deep - Cure & The Cause

i went for new age in the end...
Buy the sound of the waves - a new album in the shops right now.... It's a recording of pliinky-plonky piano chords over the sound of sea waves.

This is quite interesting!
The results are developing in what I think is quite a surprising fashion.
So much RnB hatred (good), a surprising amount of anti-dadrock sentiment (though warranted, given the cheeky inclusion of C***play in the description), but wierdly not a lot of psytrance-bashing

The thing is for me, much as I dislike psytrance, it doesn't infringe on my life much....tends to keep itself to itself..thus avoidable,
but Dad rock (like the description:D ) is inescapable, droning on everywhere you go.

Pretty good artical apart from
"Note that psychobilly and goth arrived at much the same time- Klub Foot opened the same year as the Batcave."

The Batcave definately opened in late Autumn of 82 in that cellar venue next to Odeon Leicester Square but seem to remember Klub Foot at the Hammersmith Clarendon (?) going a good few years before (79/80?)

Yeah, that was my thinking too.
