The Official Spring Cleaning Thread

You are my hero :o

We really, really need to do this.

I'm going to look for more storage boxes (nice ones) online now too.

:o:D
It's not that hard actually.

*peers round at mountains of crap either side of me*

Have a looksee for a Home Bargains round your way. I luffs them I do.

I posted a few days ago on the other clutter thread about how I'm tackling things at the moment. Binmen came this morning and I sneaked an extra bag of rubbish into next door's bin so I've got lots of room to fill it up again now :D

The thing about storage boxes is that you then have to put the boxes somewhere. Which means either stacking them up (and reducing floor space) or putting up shelves (which involves months and MONTHS of intensive procrastination).

V true. Flashy has promised me he will put up shelves if I so desire them but I think I have enough places to put them at the moment. The old pine wardrobe, which is lovely but won't fit up the stairs so stays in the front room, is being converted to a cleaning products cupboard given the limited space in our kitchen so I've got an idea to make use of some of the baskets for those under the sink odds and sods like pan lids and things and some on top of the cupboards for my less frequently used items.

Spring cleaning? Is that when you clean the bathroom and the kitchen properly?

Yep - that's the one.

We have decided that this is the year we finally sort the house out properly. Not decorating or anything, just making all the rooms usable instead of being dumping grounds.

Argh, there are some really fabulous boxes on the IKEA website, all pretty cheap, but all the ones I'm interested in aren't for online shopping

(Don't have a car so getting to a nearby IKEA is difficult)

It just occured to me yesterday that I was living a 57foot long ash covered dog bed. Now it's a bit lighter outside I can see all the grubbiness that was hidden. I am taking the rugs to the launderette on Monday, to make a start.

I don't mean to discourage you, but don't start with the floors! Always clean from top to bottom.

I ran a damp cloth over the top of the window frames - they are black from all the soot from the stove. I must take the rugs to be washed Monday, they really do smell of dog bed.

I made a start on the kitchen today. I don't think I'll bother with inside the cupboards as I thoroughly demothed them recently.

I really really want the spare room back. My pretty much unused sewing machine is in there somewhere. It's not a big room, just full.

The manshape is a hoarder and so am I really. I have to be ruthless with getting rid but then he'll fill that space with something else. I get quite territorial (sp?) about space, or lack of. Frustrating really.

So yes. Spring clean in order.
