The obligatory rant at clothes sizing

Anyone have problems with vanity sizing? You know a pair of 32" waist jeans and they measure 35" - so you buy a 30 and convince yourself that you're slim.

I know.

H&M and Miss Sixty are two more culprits for that as well. Especially their jeans & trousers.

Things like that, make me not want to shop in those stores.

must ve a european thing then because zara are similarly unpredictable with their sizes.
have alwyas found gap to be alright as i just go for the petite sizes but then i only buy my loose layering tops from them and not trousers. trousers are a nightmare for me in any shop

some sizes have got bigger though...i'm sure topshop have made their sizes larger...

Definitley I won't say what size I buy in there!!! Makes you feel good though! :D

And another thing....as it's impossible to tell what size will fit, you need to take at least 2 sizes of each item into the changing room.

But they will generally only allow 6 items in the changing room.

Drives me mental

Yes and very often two of the same thing in the same size aren't actually the same size at all.

In what world does size 10 = large?!!

i ordered a tunic / over your swim suit top from debenhams online, it was in their plus size range, i ordered a S/M - ie should fit up to a size 20 (Im a 16/18)
i cant even get my arms into it, ive recently lost 2 stone, so was slightly gutted until my sister who is a size 10/12 tried it on & it only just fits her

plus sized range my arse!!:hmm:

I have the worst shape to dress. Huge boobs, long top half, waist about the same width as my hips although it's changing at the moment, no bottom and a jiggly belly. Tops that fit over my boobs are loose all over so I look like I'm wearing a sack. I have to get sizes 24 and 26 so I can get them on in the first place cos they make dainty little empire line features that look nice but aren't elasticated or stretchy so I can't get the chuffing thing over my chest shelf. I've taken to wearing shirt and tops that are too tight with cami tops under and a few buttons undone so I don't look like a granny. And why do they think that as you get fatter, you get shorter

Trousers and skirts and especially jeans that fit my waist and belly are far too roomy in the hips and bum and I vary from a size 16 to a size 24 depending where I buy the blooming things. I want people to see my nice bottom. :( I have considered wearing them the wrong way round given that my tummy is about the size my bum should be. :D

the size thing is such a myth anyway. I had to get an extra small in these pants from victoria secret the other day and I am a 6 american size (which is a 10 in UK! so, not a small) yeesh I know Americans are total fat asses but for real, they should know it.

i buy size 12 skinny pippa jeans but they're quit big round the waist, the size 10s are more huggy but a bit muffin toppy. suffice to say i'd never dream of being even slightly in a size 10 before!

I know what you mean - I do have a psychological barrier when it comes to trying on a size 18!! (given that I'm normally 12-14)

got another large jumper yesterday (from john lewis) and it's a much better fit than the large one from M&S

sort it aht !!!

I concur with whoever picked out Zara - their sizes are absolutely mental, I'm anything from a 4 to a medium in there... but I love the place, so I persevere.

I know there is bugger all out there in the biggest sizes but being teeny is a nightmare clothes shopping as well... places have always run out of their 6s or never stock them in the first place

How can anyone who's a size 6 be a Medium?!!!
I thought a size 10 being a Large was bad enough.

That's just crazy.

It's their jumpers/cardigans... I pulled on a small and it was so tight I could barely get it off again - pretty much the only time I've ever had that problem!

topshop is definatly gone bigger in their cut, their size 6 is 2 inches bigger in hips, waist and bust than a h&m size 6.

i take a 6-8 on bottom usually (depending on cut and style) and anywhere between a 6 and a 14 on top depending on the style as my boobs are a bit too big for me. vests, tops with stretch and low cut tops are fine in a 6 or 8, while a shirt or cardigan wil only do up if its a 12/14, which then looks silly over my waist. i do end up altering a lot of my clothes to fit me better.

I have a friend who works for a posh-ish clothing manufacturer (Jaeger, Country Casuals, LK Bennett sorts) and if they get an order in for say, 10 each of sizes 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16, and they haven't them in stock, they just change the sizing labels and send 'em out. Fact. And not entirely surprising.

And when will someone tell manufacturers that if you're a 16-18, you haven't got arms like sticks? They never increase the arm sizes as they go up!

Today I am wearing size 12 Wallis trousers and a size 20 Dotty P cardie. I'm not either of these sizes, and not nearly as deformed as that might look.

H&M are small though.

I come up as a 16, and sometimes 18 there.

I'm usually a 14.

It's interesting as well reading what everyone says about S, M, L sizes. They are a bit meaningless really, because at any one time, a medium could be a 10-12, 12 or 12-14.

I have 2 tops which are identical except for the colour and the label. They both fit the same, however the one from Evans is a size 24, according to the label, the one from Dorothy Perkins is a 20.

I'm certain H&M have changed in the last 6 years or so.

Speaking of their fat range, they used to be sensibly sized (vaguely in line with other shops) but now I'm a 20/22 elsewhere and just about their 26! I haven't been back.
