The Obama effect: will it push Labour to victory?

The Obama effect?

Snow in the sun once the USUK ruling class start to implement "Global War Phase III" that they have been telegraphing as scheduled for 2009 since way back when......

We should be keeping a record of all this air-headed-feel-good-factor-never mind-real-politics-feel-the-zeitgeist-bollocks (to quote back at the soft liberals and those on the left who should know better once the proverbial hits the fan)

But then, maybe I'm a bitter old cynic.;)

Bitter old cynics often turn out to be right though.

It will be interesting to see what the Democrats forgive of Obama that they would despise of Republicans.

I think if the tories had tried on the Iraq bollox we could have stopped them or brought them down, but we lacked a key element in the anti war movement - the massed ranks of Labour apologists.

I think that ridiculously, Cameron is going to be seen as more likely to embody 'change' or 'hope' than Gordon Brown is. The real truth is that both of them are cut from the same cloth. We need a progressive agenda in place that has a safety net out for everyone during the recession and which can redistribute wealth and nationalise the utilities.

The Obama effect will be to give a shot in the arm to identity politics. That's a non-party issue. (It's a career issue)

You don't think that it has any positive effect on any black people in terms of esteem (the historical phycological effects of slavery)?

Nah, you'd rather have Lord Snooty and his Pals in power than the current shower - eh, Zachor? :D

Governments are like nappies they need to be changed regularily. Sometimes you have to vote for the least worst option and in this case its the Tories.

As it happens. I'll probably be voting for the Lib Dems on the grounds that at the last GE Lib Dems stand more chance of challenging the NL MP than do the tories.

The "least worst option" is not an option. It's like saying "cat shit is better than dog shit".

The CJA was a minor annoyance compared to what NL have done.

Oh? There's the Poll Tax (now the equally as hated Council Tax), Back to Basics, the privatisation of the railways; the privatisation of the energy companies which has ultimately led to a non-competitive energy market....

And the demise of council housing in the UK, the thousands of lives lost needlessly in the South Atlantic, public transport being set back a generation because of cuts, and so much more.

New Labour have a similar list of wrongs.

shame NL didn't do anything about these isn't it.

I wouldn't say the Falklands was needless loss of life. It did have the effect of hastening the death of the Military Junta in Argentina.

Zachor, it's one thing saying the choice between the two parties is like that between two Mafia bosses, but quite another campaigning for one over the other. Neither will be much fun; our role is to oppose and resist, not to pick sides.

If only I had your confidence in the idea of resiting and opposition. Its not exactly been a huge success has it?

Sometimes you have to pick sides. Sometimes you have to choose a party that although may be a bit stomach churning in the short term may be better for the country in the long term.
