I've got family (maternal side) out there, and Israeli and Palestinian friends there too, I've visited Israel half a dozen times, to homes not tourist spots, usually for a couple of months minimum at a time, and I try to judge by experience, and not, unlike you, let my emotions colour my arguments.

Depends on how you perceive the "problem". If you treat every stranger as a potential assassin then you're certainly going to have problems, in fact you'll very likely create and/or exacerbate them. G-d knows the state of Israel has reacted in a paranoid manner often enough to have caused people who otherwise might not have taken sides, to do so.

You have a point, but it isn't as if, if people's opinions are indeed "pathetic", that they can't be rebutted with fact, is it? I don't think it's particularly difficult to inform oneself on a situation, the secret it is to look at both sides of the coin before taking a stance (one of the reasons cemertyone's posts used to annoy me, even when he was right, was because he drew all his conclusions solely based on his pre-existing political stance), not to use your pre-existing political stance or your emotional commitments as a filter for what facts you choose to pay attention to.

There are some people here with more informed opinions than others. I don't have a great deal of knowledge about the "whole thing" myself, that is why I ask such questions and I am going to ask such questions from both sides. I Feel impartial to either side - they've been tearing clumps out of each other since christ was a kid, and they're as bad as each other, but like I said earlier. Israel is by far from evil the media (and urban) paint it to be.

Again. If I was gay, a woman, or some other minority, I'd sooner be in Israel than anywhere else in the ME. It pisses me off no end when I read some of the venemous posts on here about Israel. Truth be told - a good friend of mine at uni was from Israel, his mum was from one side of the fence, his dad from the other (I forget which way round) - and they had to pack their bags and leave because they had death threats from Palestians, ffs. I know it isn't always like that but I bet it is more common than people think.
