    I always assumed they were loops !
    You'd have thought they might have used 4 track heads rather than mechanically moving them all ...

    Giving the innards of the machine, wouldn't the tapes wear out fairly quickly? Exposed to air and mechanical stress - can't be good for them.

    I'm guessing Laurie Anderson may have been inspired by the mellotron ...
