Maybe the designer wants to keep his distance for as long as possible. If this is the case then he would be smart to chuck in some tricky puzzles which provide a barrier for how deep we can probe the fabric around us. "He" has to make the veil pretty tough to crack because "he's" probably not all that far away from us.
