The Mark Ronson appreciation thread

He is related to him in some way, but we can't judge him on that.

The work Mick Ronson did with Bowie was class , an integral part of the sound bowie was doing at the time IMO . Better than anything Mark Ronson will do , thats for sure !

A lot of the stuff seems a bit same-y - bit of strings, bit of horns. Although I am a sucker for that :o

It's working for me an undemanding, instant gratification kinda way.

The video for the radiohead cover made me smile

I liked the radiohead cover.

It's stupid fun covers of songs.

I am suprised at the coldplay cover.

I don't think it is the next best thing or an amazing achievement in music. Nor do I think it's soulless bland corporate mashups.

It's just a bit of fun, really.

Millions of people listen to shit music as well :D

I've heard that cover, yeah and his Radiohead covers - he's good at what he does, producing, and mashups but it has no soul.

Agreed. Great producer. But fucking souless.

produced some v.good stuff.

saw him at Bestival with guest vocalists and he was quite good. Lily Allen did 'Oh My God' and Amy Winehouse came on drunk (uninvited i think) and just stumbled along singing clashing oohs and ahs and mmms during one track.

Love Mark Ronson 'Just' (Radiohead cover), big-ups for that track alone.

Heard Stop Me just this morning actually, I sort of just stood there and watched for a minute asking myself, why?

If that's anything to go by then I leave it, cheers.

it actually sounds like Gnarls Barkley (not a good thing).

at first, it amused me - i even played it out, more to see people's reactions. But after about two plays - meh..

why is it Gnarls Barkley gets so much flak? they do a couple of half decent pop(ish) tunes, nothing too startling - yet they seem to have a lot of haters. am i missing something?

Ah, i don't hate them, first time I heard Crazy i was middling-impressed. But it doesn't stick in your brain long, it's pretty lightweight. Not a criticism at all, really, just not as good as the sum of its parts should be. I think they're both more talented than their album, if that makes sense..

ok, i just think of Crazy as nothing more than a nice summer sing-a-long pop song. played it at a barbeque the other day and got shouted at to take it off! maybe it's to do with overkill too....

it was - i'd heard it for the first time the day before and was still impressed with it when i was asked for that Top 3. But it palled quite quickly

I wasn't dissing Mick at all, just stating that it's unfair to judge artists against their relatives.

I downloaded the album cos I quite liked the new single. Unfortunately, Robbie Williams raping The Only One I know just made me delete the fucking lot.

i love the 'stop me' cover version, so much in fact that I bought the original smiths album on amazon...can I get a brownie point please? :p

Well he (Ronson) did turn a morose antem of teenage angst into an upbeat cheesy dance tune for a quick couple of quid. I bet its a fucking ring tone too  :( :( :(

He apparently dropped pills with P Diddy once.

I would imagine the prescence of Diddly would automatically negate any positive effect of the drug.

if i woke up after realizing i had spent all night telling p diddy i loved him and hugging him i would have to take a massive line of coke and find him and kick his ass.
